120 artists.
how do they pick them who says they are "IT" years back just out of Uni I saw a similar publication, you could send in your details with a cheque and get listed, I did. No one noticed, I even had to pay to get my copy of the book!
I feel sure there will be lots of very good artists in the book, but hey in reality I guess it's like a directory so why not an online directory. No it looks better in the gallery to have a glossy book about open at the right page for "Your Artist".
Ok you can sense the sour grapes, but do you beyond my ego to see the point? A case in point at uni a mate of mine was doing some stunning work around landscapes being destroyed (we studied in Gippsland near the open cut coal mines) an artist was invited to come to do an art forum, his work was VERY similar but no where near as provocative, political, technically astute etc. the guy prattled on about the work blah blah. One of the lecturers said afterwards that my mates work was way better and didn't go to any art forums for a while after that out of disgust.
I guess it's all arbitrary, and subjective. |
