Your forum seems to get a lot of porn and some scams, I am on another forum (as an administrator) and we used to get a lot, we upgraded to the latest version of the forum software and it has cut out HEAPS of work for us in managing it, in fact I can't remember the last time I deleted users and their foul posts.

Hi,

We can't upgrade the forum software to the current version as a clean sweep, as some elements currently don't match out custimisations...

Maybe you can PM me the forum you're mentioning, we could implement certain modules perhaps... or maybe change to a different forum software altogether?

Over the past few days I'm noticed a new strategy by spammers - registering a new username several times a day and then posting a message every half-hour or so. This appears to be automated, as the subjects and part of the text are random strings with links to the same web sites.

For example, watch what piles up in the chit-chat forum overnight.

I edit one post and Remove it so there is some record of the spammer (probably useless...) then delete any later ones. Sadly, the tempo of these posts is increasing and may need some new Forum process to deal with it...

Maybe it's time to go with manual registration verification by admin. Perhaps a wait period before being allowed to post, 2-3 days. It could harm the usability of the Forum no more than all the spam.

... Is there some new anti-spam system kicking in?

I've logged in a couple of times this week and found 30+ spam messages which have promptly vanished while I was watching.

I still can't get the 'Delete Multiple Posts' function to work - has another moderator got it working and nuked the spam? (Hooray!)

I've activated higher restrictions on member ship, hopefully it will stop spammers for the moment...

If it keeps going, I have another idea I will try thats a custom app.
