Just added a bunch of my fractal paintings to Flickr:

Recent Fractals (and some older traditional abstracts)

I find it fascinating that simple minimalist forms can be conjured out of the same mathematical universe that produces the spirals and more complex forms.

Any comments or criticism are most welcome.

Thanks for reading, hope you'll take a look.

cheers,

This is more like my cup of coffee (don't drink tea too much).
Love it. Of course, people will ask what you had in mind and how much is you in there and such, but I still like it.

Thank you very much Stefan, I appreciate very much your taking the time to look at my art and comment.

However I find the questions you raise rather amusing. As someone who worked hard to be able to render realistically (and with reasonable success), I can say with absolute certainty that there is 'far more of me' (and more artistic consideration) in most of those works than for example a realistically rendered still life.

Many people confuse rendering with artistic ability. They see a painting that is a slavishly copied photograph and praise the person who did it as a wonderful artist. To me the art comes more in the design and aesthetics of the image, and often those are sorely lacking in those copies of photos.

Since the fractal art program does the rendering and the Mandelbrot and Julia sets produce many inherently beautiful forms, it is fairly easy to produce attractive fractal images. But producing art requires the creative and effective application of design and aesthetics which once again are usually missing in fractal art.

As far as what I had in mind it's very simple; to try to visually communicate that which underlies the form, that which doesn't lend itself to verbal description. I seldom try to express a concept that could be verbalized except when specifically requested to do so as in a class assignment. To me the purpose of good design and aesthetics in art is to facilitate communication, and that communication is the essence of the art.

I've only been working with fractal art a few months so am just beginning to gain some facility with the medium. So most of what I do now can be viewed as simple design exercises. I'm a long ways off from being able to produce the art I want.

Thanks again,

db

We totally agree here - my comments have a subtle irony in them, you may have noticed.
