Very Happy I used to have a guest book on my website which had a nice mixture of good and neutral feedback on it.
Then all of a sudden it started to get hit with spam and pornographic links.
It seemed that overnight my guest book had hundreds (literally) of these annoying mile long lists of links.
I would get telstra to wipe my guestbook but it didn't take long before it was totally filled again.
So I don't have a guestbook anymore.
If I seemed a bit over the top on this issue it might have been because I was driving the keyboard whilst over the limit Shocked and because I'm still annoyed about losing my guestbook to these moronic parasites.
So who’s a happy little moderator then? Now I can delete them as soon as I see them. Very Happy

The answer is very simple.

It's because YOU, yes YOU, the forum member reading this, hasn't volunteered to be a moderator and taken the responsibility for deleting the threads, banning the users, emails, and IP's.

Of course, you might think that that's a lot of work for you to do, you've got more important things to do...

However thankfully moderators are paid $100,000/yr, provided a free new car of your choice every year, plus free first class air travel, accommodations, and all expenses to any major art exhibit anywhere in the world. (Yeah, right! ;o) )

FWIW,

I think Devilbiss offered to be a mod...but it's also US yes US that keep this forum active.

And unfortunately some of us are indeed too busy. I run two businesses 120 klms apart, alone. Add two teenage kids and their sports, a wife who also works full time and occasionally likes to know her husband exists and various committees - oh hell, why not. I'll do it. Very Happy

Hmmm, not so sure about taste, but I know I object to 'Scratch and Sniff'.

Hi Brad,
I just wanted to say I think you're doing a great job giving up your spare time to bring us this forum. Spamming is on the increase everywhere, not just this forum and I expect it is very frustrating trying to keep it under control - certainly a lot more frustrating than it is for us who can choose to ignore it.

Yes thank you Brad for your good work.

I'm pretty good at ignoring most of that stuff but sometimes it's hard to do that when the title isn't all to clear for me... but I'm getting better at this and my instincts telling me now to avoid certain titles/authors.Smile

Yes Brad thank you, you are doing a great job. I agree with the quotes above...
all except the love making pics.

The latest one is entitled "airplane sex info" for goodness sake! What the heck is that? (I'm not going to look) Sex with an airplane sounds rather a painful and potentially terminal activity (pun intended).

Classic Pook.
Since I became a moderator I have deleted about seven spam and porno posts.
Yesterday I was offline but got the two that were in Chit Chat this morning.
I can't seem to delete the spam posts in Administration.

Yay - congrats on the new job Devilbiss- I hadn't realised. Thanks for the cleaning! Dan is The Man!

Pook, I wondered if it were a Ralph Fiennes video link, but involving the plane itself is surely beyond the wildest delusions of even those men who are severely measurement-advantaged?

Hi all - didn't realise anybody could be a moderator, I thought that was up to Brad only (and therefore a big ask).

What's involved? I notice in the last few days there seem to be more auto-generated spams, which is a worry and therefore likely to be more time-consuming to control. (BTW: Daniel - feel free to nuke that 'Orange County" thread - I was just trying to be funny, 'cos the spam was so stupid.)

Cheers

Grant

Noted with amusement that new thread this morning entitled First Time Asian Anal had already had 21 hits (but no replies) Laughing I don't think the title is ambiguous or could be mistaken for a relevant topic - c'mon, put your hand up if you peeked! Laughing

I didn't.

I looked. I wondered if it was 'real' spam, or another auto-generated sequel to Finnegan's Wake.

Seemed to be a bit of both. I presume it's a strategy to get past the usual spam filters.

Hi Grant,

I don't mind making a few regulars a moderator to delete spam... anypone can be one, they just need to be trustworthly and friendly I guess.

Its a great help and much apprieciated, I just have no way to stop the spam other than to make it really hard for geniunne members to particpate.

Brad, Wet Canvas was being inudated by loads of porn spam, and other spam, and it was getting to be a real chore and a worry as members were being exposed to all sorts of unsavory pics.
It was decided to make it a rule that any newbies had to post two text messages before they could upload any images. This simple rule has stopped the porn spam in it's tracks. No spammer could be bothered to post two text posts, they just move on to an easier target. It is not onerous on genuine members, but it sure dissaudes the spammers.

As well as deleting posts, why aren't you deleting the membership of the posters? I notice that there is one called woonowboysfum who has just posted a thread with the title "jap hardcore blowjobs" who has posted numerous other similar things in the past. Why on earth do they still even have access to the board? Surely posters (or is it pesters??) who post such spam should be banned immediately shouldn't they:?
