| Yep, the winners were all misty looking landscapes, no cows this year though. I found out the sponsers do the judging. They are all aquisition prizes so the "judges" are basically shopping for art for their office. Still, it was worthwhile just to get people looking at my art. |

Hi Pete,
I've been entering exhibitions for the past 9 yrs. I've found that it is necessary if you want to become a professional artist. I have aoubt 35 listed on my CV and it shows Gallery owners that I am a serious artist who works consistently at becoming professional. Honestly sometimes it gets tiring and discouraging. I do a lot of abstract and expressionistic work and people are mainly buying the more traditional stuff at the moment.
A friend and I have decided to pool our resources. We share exhibition info with each other and also the chore of dropping off and picking up paintings from venues. Two heads are better than one so maybe find someone to pair up with and share the work.
Cheers

I picked up my paintings from the local comp today. Was it worth it? I got some great feedback from people who saw them. A few people wanted one of them but are too stingy to pay. More people identify me as an artist than did before. Yeah it was worth it.
As a proviso to the above, I won't enter again as I disapprove that the aquisition prize sponsers do their own judging, which is the organiser's choice for sure but should be stated upfront on the entry form. |

I moved to Perth last year and have just started this year entering a few of the local art comps. It has been worth it in that I have sold a few but I have also been dissapointed with the nepotism to which Boris referred earlier.
Oh well maybe Boris if you need some help knocking up some cows you could give me a call I have gumboots (sounds a bit like a weird pick up line really).
Also to thecatsgrin..I'm not surprised you have had so much success, I love your work and Stefan...I will keep an eye out for more info about the Naked Cow exhibition it sounds like one that could be fun to be part of without all the crap.... |
