Sunday,
I had a search, and I think I found your work. Gorgeous stuff. I love night scenes in paint - in the subtle changes of light, there is a lot going on. Thanks for sharing. What are you doing that's similar to Phillips?

Thank you jelly bean, that is if you did find my work and are not confusing it with someone else's.

I have been trying to paint water lately. If you google "Reason to Paint" you should find my blog. There is a painting on there "In Too Deep" that I am very happy with, but I am struggling with another two in the series. Seeing Phillip's work just heightened my struggle - but it inspired me too!

Me too!

And thanks Jelly Bean. I've sold a few. The red one is mine. As much as I love them I don't have time to look after old cars.

Sunday,
I had a look - you're genuinely talented. Your work is entirely different to Phillips, so spare yourself the comparisons. Your brushwork is great - sometimes scratchy, expressive, and your use of darker tones and subtle changes in light is excellent.
I especially like your night scenes.

Thanks jelly bean, I enjoy painting the nocturnes the most.

Simon have you done any paintings of your car in full, or just the body parts?

Can't say I particularly like her style, but good to see a painting win that celebrates family relationships. Maybe that's an omen for you with the Moran Simon? I thought that was to be announced today also? Smile

Oh dear, so many great paintings and that's got to be my least inspiring. I'm not a professional art critic, nor a critically acclaimed artist, but I dislike DKB's work. As art, her work would make great book illustration. It is twee and reminds me of westernised Mangga - all big eyes and cutsie.

Now I shall shut up, keep my nasty opinions to myself (could I get a gig on Grumpy Old Women perhaps) and get back into my studio and improve myself, because I see the hilarious irony in slamming a major art prize winner when I would probably not even be let in the doors of the NSW Gallery as a visitor.

I shall have a commiseration drink for you this evening Ben Quilty (and the Heath Ledger artist - ?name?) Cheers.

I think Ben Quilty's self-portrait is a very clever use of paint - that would probably be my favourite. And I like Robert Hannaford's of Alison Mitchell. But not many of them really grab me to be honest. They're all competent, even exceptional portraits, but nothing stands out to me like some of the past finalists. Anyone else feel that way?

yes me ... but I too like Hannaford's Alison Mitchell. I just have no idea who she is.
