Hi Everyone,
If you are interested in studying art at an Australian art College, check out: http://www.arteducation.com.au
This website is new and will grow overtime, however at the moment it currently gives visitors a review and the histroy of Australia's leading Art Schools & Colleges.
Just a start for now, I'll post more new later as its develops
Can anyone suggest things we could include in this website? What would be helpful for student's etc?
Kind Regards,

I just thought of perhaps learning type resources.... I probably shouldn't have mentioned it Brad ... I'm creating a colour theory course as we speak. But I do think lesson plans maybe a good idea, as well as tonal theory and exercise. _________________ B73

Hi Brad. What about what happens after art school. I was a student at Alexander Mackie, now The City Art Institute and had the honour of being taught by many great teachers. One, Kevin Connors gave me the best advice...learn as much as you can about art ..... then throw it out the window.
Also almost thirty to forty percent of students drop out from art schools in the first eight months of study is typical around the country.
Disipline and criticism was the main reason.
"Can you take constructive criticism" , was the first question asked by the art administrators.
Most students say yes. You can guess the rest.
So much to learn, but the real learning for all who take up this thing called art, begins after finishing any art institiution.
So maybe a subject on that could be of interest...or both together.
Sooner or later one has to learn the some times hard reality of the "art world".
Regards
Shane. |

Hi Brad,
Children, education, art, thinking primarily about children, why don’t you make your site a little bit more interactive. Children love competitions. And you can have a few competitions - by age groups. I personally want to do this on my website and ask children to draw how they see charity organisations or volunteer work or something similar like peace in the world. From the short listed artworks an exhibition can be organised, and one winner, who will get let’s say $100.
This will get children more interested in art and help children develop their artistic talent. And if it is for a good cause it will make them think more about the local community as well. It can work and it can be very good as well.

Hi Brad, I agree with Brad73 regarding colour theory, this is one of the basic and most important elements.
I think also that people of all ages need to be told and made aware of the health problems associated with various mediums. Some are very serious, take for instance, solvents, cadmiums(cancer causing) and the fine dust particles from breathing in pastels. the amount of people who contact us who have allergy or respitory problems associated with artist mediums, and i do mean serious health problems is growing daily. Most people are unaware of the harmful chemicals in the mediums they are using.
I know with schools and colleges, or in any private sector where art is being taught that the Genesis Heat-Set Oils being Non-Toxic ,meaning totally free of lead, solvents & cadmiums plus being Odourless should help in allaying any fears in Duty of Care.
Brad, i know that this may look as a sales pitch but surely in todays society we all have a responsibilty and maybe there needs to be published via your forum discussions or material made readily available for your veiwers to read regarding the harmful effects of various artist mediums, or if your veiwers go to google search and look under cadmium paints etc they can read for themselves and the startling research results.
I look forward to everyones comments on this subject
Regards

| Ideas/Tips or Hints for techniques in producing or completing artworks. For example, I didnt learn much from my high school art teachers about painting and drawing techniques, and now that I am doing a course at TAFE in visual arts (trying to learn more), Im basically teaching myself. Its the little things that you arent taught that make your painting. e.g. how to paint skin colour or white clothes etc. I think exercies or information on the "basics" of painting/drawing/ceramics/photography etc would be very helpful info to the people who missed it or werent taught in there studies. |

Hi Brad,
If this website is to be educational, informative and responsible then we should expose not just budding artists, but all artists to the many harmful ingrediants used in the manufacture of artists paints as well as solvents.
Being the national distributor of a particular artists medium, and who is talking directly with artists all over Australia/NZ daily, we find it alarming how many people do actually suffer from allergies/asthma created by nearly every type of artist medium that can be purchased from Art Supply Stores, including cheap water colour paints now imported from China. Some of the ailments are minor, some have resulted in operations and many artists now wish they had of known or been advised about certain harmful ingrediants used in artists mediums which now has affected their long term health. Of course many artists are in total denial that there is a problem.
I have taken the issue up with the editor of a well known Artist magazine published here in Australia but they declined as of the possibility of losing advertising revenue from publishing such information.
To some people i know this will look like sour grapes or something similar but i do honestly think that this information needs to be published.
Look forward to your thoughts and comments Brad.
Regards
Robyn |

Hi Robyn,
I think we should add a section "Health & Safety" ...I always felt it was not touched on to much at art school, beside being told to go outdoors to spray fixative! ...health and safety for artists woudl be really good, thanks so much for giving the idea, I think its a must do!

Good Idea Brad, please do.
As long as it is monitered from too much promotional abuse it would be very worthy of this site and a good attraction for artforum.

That'll keep you on your toes bust one
I emailed re: promotional material, you can send any to me anytime. Perhaps a few more than I mentioned. Adding links where and when I can too. Phew:oops:
