Well you've got your shed built at last Pook.
It looks great. What's planned for the large canvas?

That's a good question Daniel. Can't decide between a landscape and a large portrait. Probably a landscape. Actually unless I buy a new easel, it will have to be a landscape as it only fits on the one I've got in landscape mode! It's been sitting patiently there for over a year. Still needs another coat of Gesso before I use it though.

I noticed that you lined it with plywood.
Why did you choose ply over plasterboard? It must have been more expensive.

Not much, roughly similar - around $35 for a 1200x2400 sheet of 9mm structural ply. Unlike Gyprock, the ply can be tek-screwed or riveted straight to the gerts and portals and rafters. For plaster you would need to build a wood frame behind it as well, which would make the cost the same or more anyway. Plasterboard would also crack, especially at the cornices and joints. The steel frame moves in the wind and contracts and expands a lot with the heat. Even with the ply, the putty between the joins on the ceiling panels keeps cracking - have tried several kinds including pliable silastic stuff to no avail so will just have to put up with having cracks there or put wooden strips over them like on the interior wall.

At last I have my own room inside the house.
I painted for the first time in here today. It has good light and just enough space.
I just need to get some small tables in there and it'll be done.

Do you paint while sitting Daniel? Or is that chair just for sitting and looking?

A bit of both Pook.
I have some lower back problems so when It starts to ache I do a few stretching exercises and then sit for a while.
Good shoes are a must if you are standing for log periods of time and good posture is important when you're sitting, but it's easy to forget these things when you are into your work.
It is good to have my own room though.
Before I used to paint in the garage and would have to put the car out in the hot sun or rain all day.
On a extremely hot day I would have to move inside to paint and that involved a lot of work....setting up a studio and then moving everything back out to the garage at the end of the day. Rolling Eyes

I'm amazed that you managed such prolific output under those circumstances!

The viewing chair is one of the most important bits of my studio.

Mine is a shocker! I took photos after a major cleanup but usually it looks like a junkyard.

I used to work in the hallway Allison, at the end, it was fun! Like my own little fort.

Well my studio has change a awful lot since 3years ago when I originally started the thread. Change of room/location makes a different. Hubby and I built our house and moved in last nov 09 and I now have my OWN space! MY studio!!! Very Happy

It does help knowing you can leave your stuff and not have to pack up. Unfortunately not used quit as much or often as I would like due to 'little' distractions (My first baby arrived in Dec last year). And we may be moving next year which will mean, what took me 5years to get will be lost until we buy/build again at our new location (cry).

But for now I am embracing every moment of my studio space.

Here it is now (and in action too!)
