Whats all the hype with people and blogs. I dont get it. Obvisouly I dont have one, merely because I spend so much time on the art forum and looking up stuff related to art that finding the time for that is hard enough.
To imagine than coming on the computer nearly every day to write about myself is just so exhausting! |

I started a blog when I was living in Seoul. It was more to just save me from sending mass emails to people about what I'd been up to. I don't write in it much these days, but if I hear something interesting or stupid I'll make a comment. Or if I feel like just having an outburst, I'll write a bit. Usually once a week at most.. Realistically, more like once a month.
I also write blogs in languages I'm learning just so my friends can check them for errors. A nice learning tool for that, and I suggest to my students that they try to write something at least in a journal on a daily basis. Reflective learning rules all for confidence building. And writing proficiently is supposedly the most difficult skill to acquire.
In general terms though, it does appear that some people take it a little seriously and feel the need to write everyday about meaningless things. "I wore red socks today." |

Writing is a way of expressing oneself.. I have numerous blogs. Some have lots of thought out info about what I was thinking at the time of writing it, what i did during that day.. or how i felt about something or someone, wether good or bad.. cos its good to vent
Its just the same as writing a hand written journal, and i dont think it takes that much time .. i dont write in it everyday ..
and sometimes i do write crap .. (maybe not about red socks )
I think blogs are pretty cool |

To me people use blogs as a personal diary. But im not interested in reading such things as eejot put it | Quote: | | "I wore red socks today." | I dont want to know about some lady in the checkout que making a scene and you had to wait 10mins. If I read a blog a want to know interesting stuff like if your an artist, an idea your thinking about, or a problem you came across when creating it. Why do people have blogs just for blogs sake? |

I dont write blogs for other people to read.. I could care less if anyone else read them or not, i write them for myself.. so i can vent, so i can reflect.. i do however read friends blogs so i can see what they have been up to and if they are okay.. so that when we talk again i know where they are at .. and have some idea about how they are feeling etc
Not everyone has the same artistic expression .. if your not interested in what other people have to say, thats not to say someone else isnt interested. I have other interests and other stuff going on in my life, i arent just some kind of painting machine with no feelings or life experience.. afterall its life experience that molds us into who we are, both our strengths and weaknesses... |

I'm really disappointed in you Lori
I agree though, I do tend to write stuff for my own reflection or for venting purposes. I actually just went through my Korean blog and have been laughing for like 2 hours remembering things that happened over there. The last couple of hours alone has made it well worth the 15 minutes every few days I put into it... And I know others won't find it funny or even understand half of what I'm going on about, but it sure helps the memories flood back for those that were there when things happened. |

wow this is an interesting thread .....
I have two blogs.
One is for my photography solely.....as i KNOW a lot of people and direct them there to see what is happening in my life......i am interesting to some.....
I also have another for a journal...it is a record of who i am, what i do, how i operate and kind of a HUB for the things i am doing and information i want to disseminate.
I write about my life, my kids, my art, permaculture, my renovation.....in short it is a way to peek into my life..... it is also a HUGE time saver......i can blog images straight from picassa to my blog without doing anything much extra.......and it gets to the people that are interested. I use it as a way to connect my multiple websites
and the MAIN THING
its EASY TO EDIT CHANGE UPDATE.
I can embedd movies, sound, links to my friends sites ... in short its a brilliant marketing tool. I can tag images and GOOGLE LOVES BLOGS.
does that explain a little better........? it take's a few minutes to put up the main points......
its my end of day wind down too...... not every day......and sometimes i feel lazy and add images.....
personally it increases traffic to my official site and gets more hits than myspace....... i dunno about you.......but thats good. I have SOLD ART because of my blog.......that is enough for me so perhaps give it a try instead of being a knocker..... |

Blogs are great. Personally, i Love the 'I wore red socks today' sorta blogs. I like reading intimate and everyday things about people, what they do, what they think. It helps me sometimes to put my own thoughts/emotions in perspective.
Then again, i watch Big Brother.... |

I've never been the kind of person to keep a diary even for myself, let alone publish one on the world wide web. I started a journal a couple of times but never kept it up. Id' rather spend the time experiencing life than recording it in boring minute detail every day.
I agree with chrissy, i'm only interested in a blog if it tells me something useful or interesting, or if it is by someone I know, say for example, a friend on a world trip so I can follow their progress or something like that.
Unlike Winston, I have never learned to love Big Brother. |

Reflect === nice soak in the bath ? some meditate some artist reflect in their works but some like to put things in black and white into a physical perspective (words) guess that’s why you got blogs.
But why unveil your persona to the scrutiny or possible bias of the public ?? is what stumps me. I personally wouldn't want to give out a large quantity of personal day-to-day information to random people. |

Same here.
If I wrote a blog I expect it would only be popular as a cure for insomnia.

Yes I'm afraid I'd feel really uncomfortable having the minute details of my life out there for complete strangers to see. I have kept journals at various times in my life when there was so much stuff going on that it was like a little oasis to escape to & reflect, vent & order my thoughts in a completely uncensored way, but then & even now, I'd die if anyone actually saw them!!! These days my life, though very peaceful & enjoyable to me, I'm sure would be like watching paint dry to strangers!!! I wouldn't dream of inflicting that on anyone, and indeed my time is too valuable & I'd rather spend it on people & things I care about. This forum is my only internet vice! But I enjoy it so much that I could never consider it wasted time. Each to their own though & I can understand how it could be used as marketing tool - so blog on if thats your thing & good luck to you |

Yeah, thjat's what I meant. I've never learned to love it because I hate it so much I've never watched it! (how's that for prejudice?) |
