Hi everyone, I'm looking for help.
I'm trying to build a site using a Mr Site standard package.
When I try to put images into a page all seems good but when I preview or publish the page the images show as those annoying red x's.
I don't mind telling you that it's sending me insane.
I've tried everything.... searched the web for answers..... joined the Mr Site official forum (which was empty) but no joy .
I've emailed support at Mr Site but as they are based in Jolly Ol' England they probably won't get back to me until early next week or when they feel like it.
Has any other Mr Site users experienced this problem? and if so the how did you fix it?

Hi Daniel - what's the URL of your new site? Also, email me one of the culprits so I can look at it.

Random thought - you're not using spaces in the filenames by any chance? Webservers HATE that... "your picture.jpg" becomes "your%20picture.jpg", which or course the server can't locate...

Cheers

Daniel, I have used and recomended MrSite for years, currently I administer two websites using MrSite.
I haven't had this trouble before but clearly something is causing the files not to load properly. Without seeing exactly what you are doing it's hard to suggest a suitable fix.
I am happy to help though.
If you want we could always chat on the phone to walk through what you are currently doing and see if we can get to the bottom of it. If you want to do that just PM me so we can exchange phone numbers (I have VOPIP so calling long distance is no problem).

Cheers

Is it a gallery you are having this problem with? or just inserting images into a normal page?

Are you uploading the file first then waiting for the 'Upload Successful' message before clicking 'insert' ?

There are two image icons one looks like a mountain (I suppose it's meant to be a photo of a landscape), the other has the same icon with a pencil poised over it - I always use this second one.

And yes long filenames and spaces in file names don't go down so well.

Thanks Amanda.
I've seen your site and Brett's and I am impressed with them.
I have been talking via email to Grant and have worked out that it might be a problem with the server recognising my domain name.
I had an existing domain name and handed it over to Mr Site.
Apparently it takes a few days for everything to correlate.
I have emailed Mr Site about the problem and will just have to wait for a reply.
I am following the instruction book very carefully and resizing and renaming the images before uploading them but when I am in creative mode (on the web builder) the images show up fine. But when I preview them or publish them and check how they look the dreaded red x's appear.
I have spent hours trying to cover every available option but nothing works.
I will just have to wait for Mr Site support.
Thanks. I'll keep you informed and post a link when I finally get it done.

I've had to ask Mr Site a question before. They took ages to get back to me, but when they did, they were very helpful, and their suggestion worked. It was to do with my shop rather than images.

I've had the same thing with images happen to me too, but it was a couple of years ago now, and for the life of me I can't rember how I fixed it. Like what Grant said I think my photo file names had a space in them. Renaming them fixed the problem.

Notice how things always happen just before the weekend? You have to wait for Monday to roll around before anyone even reads your email, and even then, it's their Monday not ours, which kind of makes it our Tuesday.
Sorry I'm not much help. Good luck!

Just a quick update for those who are interested.
I found out that the DNS (Domain Name Server) codes that they provided in the instruction manual are different to those that are really needed.
Funny that.... you would think that they would keep the instruction manual up to date.
The DNS codes provided on the web (after you are logged in) are correct but I had my head buried in the instruction manual Rolling Eyes
This has been frustrating for me, but I suppose that 99% of people starting a website wouldn't already have a registered domain name and need to transfer it over...so I chose the hard road.
So I should be able to build a website after another 72 hours...no joke.

On the brighter side of all of this...I've learned a lot.

Devilbliss re: photo problem

Yes I had the same experience it was to do with my file names having spaces in them. So when I want to use an image I edit the file name first to either bit on long text or use an underscore "_" between words e.g. "Sunset_20x30cm_2010"

Thanks Crissy but my problems run a bit deeper than just the image name.
I have been emailing Mr Site support now for three days and each time I send an email I get answered by a new person and have to start fresh.

I see that your domain name is chrissydwyer.com.au
I didn't seem to get an option to put a .au on the end of my name and now it's caused huge problems for me as I am trying to redirect my old domain name danielhutchings.com.au to Mr Site and now they seem to be trying to tell me that I'm lying to them somehow.

Even if there was an option to use danielhutchings.com.au then I wouldn't have been able to as I already owned it and have it housed at TPP Inertnet
I just want these f#ckwits to tell me how to fix the problem.
Seriously it shouldn't be this difficult.

Hi Daniel - technical point (White coat time). Is your existing domain hosted by TPP, or registered with them, or both. If it's just registered, they can remain the Registraar and the DNS entries should be set to point to Mr site.

If they're hosting your .au domain, it is possible to have a 'redirect' (the term is 'dot forward') to point to the .com domain. Just means you're paying for two lots of hosting.

In the tax invoice that I received from TPP Internet the only service that I have been charged for is registration.
There is no mention of hosting.
I don't have an existing website.
I think domain name registration is a bit like business name registration. If you want that name exclusively then you have to register it somewhere and pay a yearly or biennial fee.

There is an artist in America that paints similar to me and his name is Daniel Hutchings...it's weird.
I get emails from publishers asking me for permission to use his images.
It's complicated.

Close - it is biennial, but you have to have the name exclusively or not at all.

EG: you are the owner of danielhutchings.com.au and nobody else can use it. But they CAN register danielhutchings.com, danielhutchings.com.ru, danielhutchings.co.uk etc etc.

For what it's worth, there are a number of companies spruiking for business by sending out "We have received an enquiry about the domain danielhutchings.com.hk. If you wish to secure that domain, please contact us..." emails. Whilst technically NOT a scam (they DO register the domain for you if you pay them. Probably.), they're just trying to panic you into paying for a name you don't need.

Cheers

Here's a link to my amazing website. Laughing

I understand the system now. I should leave some room in my head for a bit of lateral thinking. Thingz would be a lot easier then.
