Bought a few 40ml tubes to try them out, but they smell absolutely appalling, so they are no good to me here (house full of migraine sufferers).

I don't like to see things go to waste, so if anybody wants them, shoot me your postal address (Australia only, please) and I'll send them to you.

The colours are; Titanium White, Transparent Yellow, Quinacridone Red Violet and Pthalo Blue.

My $60 loss, your gain. First come, first served!

That's a very generous offer somebody will get a good deal, but if you paid $60 for that lot I think you should change where you shop , you could get that lot for $36 at www.smartartclub.com.au

Actually they cost me $45 plus shipping (another $12), so yeah, SAC would have been slightly cheaper. Oh well.

So far, no takers. Maybe I'm the last one to find out they're unusable Confused

Yes I don't pay the shipping costs as I live not that far from Smart Art, and I've read a few good reports about Archival Oils but never used them myself, I use the other quick drying oil paint Griffin which hasn't got a bad smell or not one that annoys me anyway, so next time I see an Archival tube I will take a wiff !.... Have they put you off using oil paint for good ?

I was going to try the Griffins, but I was seduced by Archival's claims about not having to remember fat-over-lean.

No, definitely not off oil paints Smile I have a pretty sizeable collection of DR Georgian and Maimeri Puro here. I adore the Puros in particular, but they are very slow drying, which is why I was looking at alternatives. Guess I'll just have to work on my patience, and perhaps try some more absorbent grounds.

I'll have them.
What suburb of Sydney do you live in?
I'm in St Ives.
If you haven't given them away already then put my name on them. Very Happy

Of course, the person they're going to might not like them either -- watch this space Smile

Hi Lindsay,

Archival Oils are not meant to smell awful and I’m very sorry you’ve had an unfortunate experience with them. I paint with them in a fairly confined area and don’t find their odour trouble some. My family and I have sensitivities to things as well.

Chroma will replace or refund on anyfaulty product.

Have you posted the paints off yet?

What is needed is for the paints to be returned so that we can test them. We have a free post address for this service.

Hi Serena,

I have already posted them off, in fact the recipient will probably receive them today. It will be interesting to see what he thinks of the smell.

It never occurred to me that they might be faulty - given that I had four different tubes, I think that's highly unlikely, unless they were in some way stored that caused some sort of adverse chemical reaction. In a few weeks I'll be near an art shop that stocks them, I'll pick one at random there and see if it smells the same as what I had.

For what it's worth, I have quite a few tubes of Interactive Acrylics and I really like those, so I'm not in any way anti-Chroma Smile

Thanks,
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,

I thought that might be the case that you had sent them off. Well it will be interesting to see what the recipient thinks of them and I hope that they join in the conversation. I would like to know.

Thanks you for that post Exclamation
