No I'm not saying that at all Very Happy It's just that you have to give forum members the space not to reply aswell......I look at so many post in a day and usually nothing of any worth comes into my mind that I could use as a reply..
But please don't stop posting I'm always interested to see how your work is coming along, sometimes it's a bit daringly different but that's good too. Very Happy
Plus there hasn't been many forum members actively posting of late..

There's a few things about this painting that bug me.
I have a problem with the fact that the only colour you seemed to use is blue.
The drawing of the eye could be a lot better. The iris is out of shape.
I don't now what to look at...the eye or the landscape within it.
If you paint a close up view of something like this it really should be spot on with all of the relevant detail included.
I'm not too keen on the concept either.
Full marks though for trying, and for posting it on the forum for critique.

Thanks Tango, your very kind Smile

Devilbliss, I have only used one colour, i am exploring "monochrome". I wanted a break from my usual thing, and wanted to paint something from my imagination. I know there are many things "wrong" with this painting, the eye not being detailed enough and the iris is not completely spot on as you noticed. But it is differant. Not everyone is going to like every painting that i make. So that is a lesson in itself. Thanks for your opinion I always respect your critique.

The trouble with commenting on people's work is that it can be taken very personal and in this world where relationships are so volatile, losing a potential friend is not a thing that people can afford that easily.
I have the same feelings as Daniel about this work, I also can hardly relate and I would not say I like it or I want it on my wall, but don't take it personal.
Perhaps you could try to darken the exterior of the eye and use darker tones to define the focus point.

Generally I spend so much time being critical of my own work that I'm out of adjectives by the time I get around to looking at other peoples work. And I also think I don't have enough experience to make a valid critique of other peoples works anyway. However, if you're experimenting with a monochrome colour scheme, it's a good chance to go crazy with tones, cos really that's all you've got to work with.

Yes it's very hard to not take it personally when people criticise your artwork.
I can take other artists criticisms without a problem because they know how to give a critique.

I've been to art shows and overheard people commenting on artwork.
Some are blatant and say things like...That's complete sh#t! or oooh that's really nice...I like that...yes.
No discussion as to why they like or don't like it, for them it's the same as going into David Jones and looking at the home wares.

Art is different. It was thought up by someone and then lovingly handmade and then proudly put on display for everyone to see.
It's pretty hard not to take it personally.
I usually get a lot of criticism from educated artists because I paint "photographically" . It's a great feeling when you get beyond caring about any type of criticism and just enjoy what you do.

I like the concept, but, like Devilbiss says, I think it needs detail, lots of it and colour too. Maybe with detail you could get away with monochrome, or with colour you could get away with less detail. I guess either way it needs more. It keeps making me turn my head on an angle...hehe.

I refrained from comment because I don't like the concept..... it gets done too often. I find it very hard to comment on a piece I can't relate to.

On criticism, I delivered an abstract landscape to a cafe for display and the owner said "looks like someone spewed on it". "Probably ate your food" was my reply.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'd prefer to see the landscape reduced into the pupil only that way there might not be so much competition between the images.

Tara this painting is great,
if youre going to change it , add to the contrast around the eyelids

I saw it before and didnt comment ( multiple tabs open, mind on other things )
two beers down and this painting SCARES me
I cant look at it, but I WANT to look at it

( bear in mind I was at a pretty big art opening tonight and NOTHING grabbed me the way this pic does )

monotone looks slightly ametuerish, especially primary colours ( unavoidable ), but to me this image is so strong that it works ( possibly WOULDNT work in any other colour ? ). maybe not "fine" art, but on a par with the best of those "3D eye" puzzles . Im not trying to insult, just trying to convey the strange visual impact that this piece has on me

please don't put a dolphin in the middle , jumping out of the iris/water ( please do another WITH a dolphin - and put it on eBay called "mistycal vision" or something )

I would gladly have that on my wall( and I dont say that often about other people's art ) , but it would scare my daughter.

if thats small, do a big one !
