Hi,
I'm a weary Sydney street photographer who's just completed a literary type look into the head space of me and my comrades.
'“I’ve always seen my role as street photographer a little in the guise of a nutty guy wearing a straw boater, chasing butterflies at a leisurely nineteenth century picnic using a long net fixed to a short pole”
Escaping Into Life is a 75000 word, illustrated exploration into the contemporary street photographer featuring direct contributions from 33 of the worlds leading exponents of the art (including; Matt Stuart, Gus Powell, Blake Andrews, Nitsa, Pascal Van Heesch, Adrian Fisk, Markus Hartel, Ray Potes…).
Ostensibly it is one mans chaotic journey toward self discovery. The reader is left to marvel and guffaw as Stark (me) stumbles and trips through this extensive three year project: an endeavour undertaken in a wholly desperate bid to better understand his own hopelessly faltering personality. Street photography defines this man; it is his reason and its true meaning lies at the very core of a most curious purpose…
“Twenty five years of wandering aimlessly: traversing the laneways of my home city. A ruthless pursuance of the people I’ve never met: procuring pale depictions of intertwined relativity before scuttling furtively back to the calm of a wholly darkened room. I entangle the passers-by within a relentlessly uniform frame of quaintly sprocketed observation, for no particular reason and certainly for no tangible advantage. Incongruity barks madly, a preposterous howl that haunts all lucid reason and has me wondering just what in God’s name I am doing?”
For anyone who is interested "Escaping Into Life" is now available as a genuine, curl up in bed kind of fair dinkum book (with a cover and a spine and even a whole bunch of page numbers)(also has a lot more photo's than the previous PDF)
