I know why ignorance is bliss

I am in the process of moving our book collection Sad

Elle McPherson is quoted as saying she does not own a single book

It would be so much easier to move her bikinis than our books I am sure

I think moving Dug's books off Elle Mcpherson would probably still be worthwhile...

NB: the last time I moved, my Science Fiction & Fantasy books alone completely filled the back of a friend's ute. That was 20 years ago...

I remember the interview when she uttered those immortal words: "I don't own any books; I don't believe in reading anything I haven't written myself"

How do you get an author to sign an eBook?

Grant, is that one of those Zen type questions.... like one hand clapping?

Dug, no they wouldn't. I read a lot of reviews lately and students using ebook textbooks generally felt that it was more difficult to view images, illustrations, graphs, etc. I like books personally but also have storage problems. Ebooks are too expensive anyway.

Q: How many Zen Monks does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: A fish

No, it was more musing on the way everytime we have an 'improvement' in technology, we lose something along the way. I have a number of signed books from various Science Fiction Conventions. The Worldcon is coming up in Melbourne in September, and given that the Nerd Quotient will be nearing 100%, I presume quite a few of them will be packing iPads. I'm trying to picture how a book signing will work with an eBook... (Developers Note: I think there's an iApp just waiting to be written here....)

Cheers

I was sure the answer to that was "because motorcycles don't have doors."

The myth of upward human progress. Not everything gets better all the time in every way. A fridge or hot water system you buy today might last 8-10 years. Twenty years ago it would last 20-30 years. The earliest 'long-life' lightbulbs we bought back in the 90s lasted a decade or more. Today's long life ones seem to go after a year or two.

"lose something along the way" - absolutely.... the right to hand someone a book and say "read this its great". Or find a book left at a hotel or bush trail hut that has "this is great... read it and pass it on" written on the inside cover. Not to mention the loss of second hand book shops and being able to fossik for books at op shops. These are huge losses.

At least with a proper book the battery won't run flat halfway through & at the most inconvenient time.

I love my books.

When computers came out they said it would do away with magazines, but the magazines have only multiplied not lessoned.
