I'm a 57yo, 170cms, 80kgs, nudist, seeking life model training & practice to broaden my limited modeling experience. Would suit students who can't afford to pay for models, as well as experienced drawing, photographic, or sculpture artists.

Maybe team up with other aspiring life models too!

I require direction & practice of the varied desired poses, before I can be confident of applying for paid class work. However, I may also arrange small impromptu classes for those interested.

I dont think you need much experience to become a paid model.

When I was at TAFE we had a model who was carrying a lot of extra weight and she would just sit or lie down and go to sleep.

We had to draw quickly though as she slowly slumped, her position changed a lot from the start to the finish.

The teacher would then have to wake her up for the next pose.

She got paid.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your reply.

That's amazing! She got paid for having a sleep & the model posed in whatever way she chose!?! Sounds like the teacher was somewhat slack & should have given her some instructions!

I've been discovering that good models have great techniques & know how to hold poses so their muscles won't go to sleep & to give students a chance to practice & learn.

Anyway, if you, or you know someone who could use a model for practice, please let me know.

Regards,
Al

The models name was Moth, short for mammoth.
The teacher (who is highly regarded) employed her because of her weight.
He thought it was good practice to try and emphasize her weight and capture her bulk.
I also enjoyed drawing muscular models that could hold tiring poses but both types of models are equally valid.

Thanks Mike,

Yes, I appreciate that it's good practice to work with all body types & may I say that you did a fine job of drawing Moth!

Although, I find it surprising that there aren't many people here seeking life models, especially for free & in Sydney, who like to practice drawing outside of classes. I feel it would be too overwhelming for newbie models like me, to just appear in front of a class without some experience. I'd even be happy being a regular model for just one practicing artist!

I must say that as Winter approaches, life modeling may not be too comfortable & I look forward to warmer days!
