I am trying something out with mine....
I have a few projects on the go. A big exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat that I am curating (38 artists) and another one I am curating in Qld, again with a large number of artists. These projects take lots of time and lots of money so I am exploring a whole range of fundraising options.
I am proposing to do a raffle of one of my paintings at $5 a ticket (stupidly I did the math after coming up wiht this amount and realised just how many tickets I will need to sell) Anyhoo...it is only one thing I will be exploring in my fundraising endeavours.
I don't yet know if people who are signed up to my page will be interested or not in buying raffle tickets but we shall see. I haven't confirmed any details yet just asking people who think it's a good idea to express interest by commenting on my page. If I don't get interest I won't proceed

Just thought I'd share it here as we have this thread going about the facebook pages. |

| Just a thought. Beware of running foul of govt legislation regarding raffles. |

If that doesn't work out, maybe an online silent auction? |

I think I will run the gauntlet if enough people are interested. The thing about an auction is you end up with one person paying whatever they can manage.
With the raffle people can put up $5 for a chance to own a painting. Of course I don't expect to raise that much but after doing the exhibition budgets this morning I thought I'd better start chipping away at it. |

| I am interested in this, Amanda and I want to be part of it. FB won't let me add any new friends or fan pages. Is there any other way to participate? |

Thanks Stefan.
I think you can probably still look at the page and relevant details without having to add my page.
It's not confirmed yet as I only had the idea yesterday and if there are only a dozen people interested it won't be worth doing.
But if I go ahead I will make a special page on my facebook page with a paypal button and I will also send all the relevant info to my mailing list. So you can be on FB or on my mailing list. |

Turns out my sister runs raffles as part of her job at a local uni. As long as I don't reasonably expect to make more than $2000 I don't need to do anything with govt. At $5 per ticket that would require 400 tickets and I only have 288 people on my page, some of whom are overseas and won't want to pay for shipping. So really don't expect I'll exceed that |

Artabase, that great site for information on exhibitions, artists and galleries have posted a blog about my raffle! They even included the link to buy tickets.

Quick update:
7 days until the raffle is drawn. 108 tickets sold. $540 raised toward admin, publicity, travel costs etc.
So the raffle is doing well.
Only a small number of tickets have been bought by facebook page fans who didn't already know me either personally or through forums etc. ...which I can appreciate as there is the small matter of trust. Hopefully though when the winner is announced and posted on the page and people see that they have actually received the work of art they chose more trust will be built. |
