Allison - if you can get hold of it, get some Bleedproof Marker pads- they're designed specifically for Yoken & Pantone markers. The strokes tend to flow better and they don't bleed through to the next sheet (thus the name.) They're also thin enough that you can see a rough sketch underneath and work over it without needing a lightbox.

Nice job on the light.

Cheers

No worries - there's also an excellent book called "Rendering in Mixed Media" by Joseph Ungar which is well worth a look. 'Mixed media' in this case means markers plus the odd bit of white paint or Chinagraph. He has a terrific style for making products leap off the page - the real thing rarely lives up to the excitement of the concept sketch!!

A long time ago, an art director I used to work with at the agency showed me a full-page ad he had done as a 'comp' - ie marker illustration and hand-lettered headings. The client loved it so much, they actually ran it in the Age... complete with ruled lines to indicate where the type would go!!

Cheer

i really like your style to - it comes across as confident and fluid. i have noticed in recent times that splashes of red work really well in arresting the eye and pulling the viewer in.

I'm really getting into red as a colour to use, i think it does definately direct the eye to certain places in a composition. Thanks for the comments I don't really feel so confident with the pantones yet but it helps that i can use the same colours as i use in oil painting.(well sort of)

cheers Smile

What they said. You have the raw talent. All you need is the right tools, materials, technique and subjects.
