Hi Wendy and Congratulations! Very Happy

I went to an opening today, they had a wine rep from Drayton’s who did wine tasting; there was a small plate of nibbles such as dips, crackers and cheese. It was very nice. The artist was there from 11am to 5 pm.

I have my opening in August at a Restaurant Gallery, its $30 per person which covers a glass of wine (Red, white or juice) and nibbles while guests walk around to view paintings and talk to the Artist (in this case moi) A main (2 choices) and Dessert (2 choices) My paintings will be hung there for the 2 weeks following. 10% of sales go to the local life saving club. If people want to continue drinking they purchase from the Restaurant Gallery. Stats at 6pm and finishes 10ish.

Hi Wendy could you post a few pics of any finished pieces to help with the name. I won't incorporate the Venue into the name. I liked Jo Tyler's suggests "The Call of Nature"

As for Drinks....I haven't been to ANY openings where alcohol was provided free however nibbles yes. Alot of places do Cheese and Antipasto platters which is ok except I don't like any dips. I would eat the cheese and crackers if I ever got the chance (some people go to openings for their dinner!). Still do make alcoholic drinks available even though it is early arvo. No different when people come round for afternoon drinkies at your place.

I too am having my first solo this year. I want to talk to the caterers about what I want. I have been to some of our exhibition launches in which I am part of the management committee, some food have been; Mini Chicken skewers with some sort of marinade (probably satay), Meatballs, Pesto stuff on french bread slices, Mini Fritters, those cocktail deep fried things like samoeas and prawn toast.

Personally I want some more edible things at mine (stuff I would actually eat). So a combo of fancy and 'normal'. I was thinking mini Quiches, Mini Pizzas, Cheese and Dip and Crackers, etc.

As for paying for first drink free, if is coming out of your pocket don't. I thought about this too as I got a grant so technically not paying for it myself, however I thought to myself, I want to see the turnout without an incentive for people just to turn up. I want people to turn up for me and my exhibition not "to get a free drink". Though being an attendee on the receiving end of a free drink, yes it is an incentive and I would think Cool but it takes the focus off YOU and YOUR exhibition.
