Hi guys,
I sort of absent mindedly stumbled across "australianartforum.com"
and forgive me Brad, but I somehow thought it was THIS site rebadged because it had been a while since I'd been here (although I thought it was odd they had no sponsors/advertising the way this does- and man am I so glad it wasn't this site).
I registered, had a look around- and a day or so later was sent an email saying they'd deregistered me/booted me off because I didn't meet their member ship requirements(?!).
Does anyone know- is it a phishing site?
Or are they strange or elitist?
I should say don't go rushing there to have a look because you'd have to register to see any images anyone had posted and....well you know what happened to me,
so don't bother and don't give the traffic,
but just in case anyone knew?
Lach
I've retitled this thread, as there seemed to be some confusion over which forum Lach is referring to...

This forum has a lot of members who seem to be very independent thinkers and won't hesitate to tell you if they don't like something or disagree with what you've written, and I like that.
I also like the sort of red blooded discussion that this forum has. |

| this is news to me. apart from having a valid email and password, there was no rego requirements when i joined a few years ago.
did you manage to post anything? maybe they thought you were phishing
have you tried emailing them back to see what the problem was? |

Chrissy are you aware that the forum being referred to is not this one but the other Australian Art Forum? |

Good idea to rename the post-
Actually no - I hadn't posted anything- just registered initially so I could see the image posts at all/see what sort of forum it was.
Sad eh?
But no I'm not interested in pursuing them as to why I was booted-,
(I confess I am interested in telling others to not bother ).
But anyway the moral of the story is that I meant to be on this forum,
and still am-
so its all good.

Well Amanda perhaps I'm stretching the point a BIT but what happened is that when I joined they invited me to introduce myself , and because nothing much was happening on the site at the time I thought I would leave it for awhile , I logged on a few more times without participating and then one day they just cancelled my log on details, I suppose I could have rejoined but not being much impressed by their site I didn't bother... |

No i had to miss it as I had a meeting on tonight. It may surprise you to know that we do have more than one river in Tasmania!
St Helen's is about an hour and a half's drive from here. |

Darn it.... now it will be harder to find that river that will make me come out better if i swim in it.....
This forum is good because it is just like talking to the little voices in my head ... with ### 's instead of the swear words!! |

In their defence, that's probably an anti-spam measure. This forum used to get about 80 registrations a day from spammers (no human registers as ASHonoceappywap). The strategy is to get their web address listed as part of their profile to improve their Google ranking, or to post the spam at a later date when nobody is looking.
It's not a bad idea to have a periodic 'sanitising' of the user database and delete anybody who has never posted after say, 3 months. I may have suggested that to Brad at some point (I don't know how to do it), but from what I've seen, it doesn't help them with Google anyway.
Oh, by the way Wendy the ####'s happen because I've set the Forum to censor various words - NOT, actually because I have anything against swearing, but as my little gesture to spammers. It doesn't do your Google ranking much good if your message comes up as "Buy #### #### #### ####". Not sure it works, but anything that gives the #### a hard time is worth trying.
Cheers

Well I don't really buy that- all's they'd have to do is google the email address to find out I'm a human
(- that also does art.)
Thanks for the suggestion though. |
