Howdy,
I have embarked on portraiture...
This is my first and have come to a little bit of a standstill... Freckles...
Can anyone please advise or feedback on how I'm going with this or any hints and tips would be much appreciated. Freckles are not finished - Would love feedback before I continue.
The paintng is still wet in some areas - where it looks almost blue.
Kind Regards |

I commend you on your mouth! I can not do teeth to save my life!!!
Looks great although I think the left eye needs to be darker as it is in shadows? |

Thankyou Lisa!!
I'm still working on the left side it is still wet and looks much brighter than it is, but the left side will definately need to be darker i fully agree |

| Excellent execution. What have you used to paint the grisaille with? Are you intending to use oil glazes over this? If so, you may find that the grisaille is a little dark - it needs to be quite light to begin with as each layer of glaze darkens the picture more. |

Thankyou The Pook
I have simply used black and white oils and no I had no intention of putting anything else on it.
I am self taught and have not played too much with glazes and mediums and the like. But would like to learn more!
I have to say I am impressed with the description of my painting 'Grisaille'. I have my first exhibition in August with another lady who sketches and the name would fit the exhibition perfectly to combine our work. |

You should consider learning how to use glazes. I thought it was an underpainting - didn't realize it was simply a black and white painting. It's very good for a first portrait. It would be very suitable as a Grisaille. You can also use sepia or green. A green one is called a Verdacchio.
Here is a portrait I used glazing technique with:

Cydonia, I think your portrait is terrific.
The position of your subject is (to me) a difficult one, the angle, shadows depth and teeth!! I can never get them right!
So from me it is a big WELL DONE!!
Pook... I love your Aunty Phil painting, it is gorgeous!
Although... the green beginning would have made the un-educated of us a bit worried! |
