Scuse me while I kiss this fly
from Wiki
| Quote: | The American writer Sylvia Wright coined the term mondegreen in her essay "The Death of Lady Mondegreen," which was published in Harper's Magazine in November 1954.[3] In the essay, Wright described how, as a young girl, she misheard the final line of the first stanza from the 17th-century ballad "The Bonnie Earl O'Murray." She wrote:
When I was a child, my mother used to read aloud to me from Percy's Reliques, and one of my favorite poems began, as I remember:
Ye Highlands and ye Lowlands,
Oh, where hae ye been?
They hae slain the Earl O'Murray,
And Lady Mondegreen.
The actual fourth line is "And laid him on the green". As Wright explained the need for a new term, "The point about what I shall hereafter call mondegreens, since no one else has thought up a word for them, is that they are better than the original".

I'm a big Queen fan. I was convinced that a line in one of their lesser-known tunes went:
"I'm just a poor boy, I need nose thrift"
The family has since cured me of this delusion, many times.

A small schoolgirl was describing her drawing of the Nativity to her mum.
"This is Mary and this is Joseph and this is the baby Jesus."
"Who is the little fat fellow at the back? asks mum.
"Oh. That's Round John Virgin." |

My little brother always sang
"Twinkle twinkle little star
Up the pup the world so high"
Since then that is the version the kids in our family know. |

I've got one... my mum is a master of the misheard lyric...
Billy Joel was belting 'Innocent Man' out of our stereo as she sang along, she casually asked my sister and I if we had seen this movie? 'What movie?' we asked.
'Elephant Man' she replied, and kept singing...'I aaam..an Elephant Ma-a-an!'[/i] |

| I like music that takes me away, get high on, or should be high to listen to....Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, etc. When I need attitude or am in party mode Disturbed, Linkin Park, Filter, etc, come out to play with me. (no, I'm not 19) Even tho they've been around for a while, I have just discovered Porcupine Tree. If you like Pink Floyd you'll like Porcupine Tree. Mumford and Sons, Triple j music, Lemon Jelly, Nickelback........too many to mention. Yes I have an iPod, it goes with me everywhere. |

Let alone when he sung. |
"In the maw-aw-ning, when ah wet ah ma bed.."
The band I used to be a roadie with (in a previous life) did a cover of Chisel's "Cheap wine" The singer thought the lyric was "Cheap wine... and a three legged goat"
Cheers
