Hi everyone
I've started an online survey for Australian artists. Let me introduce myself. I'm an emerging artist, but like most of you I have a day job and art has become my "hobby" for my spare time in order to support my living. So I've decided to set up a art portal site for australian artists to promote & expose their work to the galleries & art lovers. Before the expected launching in March, I would like you to answer a few questions in order for us to understand more & build a better portal site for all artists.

Kathy, not trying to criticise you, but how is your online art promotion site going to be different from the already many existing sites e.g red bubble, and the ones you mention in your survey etc. |

Hi Chrissy
Thank you for your participation in our survey.
To answer your question, our site (WhiteSpac3) will concentrate on the connections between artists & galleries. We are aiming to build a community not just for artists but for all art galleries & organizations as well. I'm not sure if you've read my older post about the site launch, but one of our features would be our monthly E-mag which contains all of our artist members best work and distribute to all galleries that subscribed (which by the way is free for all galleries to do so). They can view our artists' statement as well as a direct link to each artists profile & portfolios and they can contact artists directly. At the moment we have over 20 galleries subscribed and more expected to come before the launch.
We've also done a survey with all subscribed galleries and over 80% claimed that "word of mouth" was the main source for them to find new talents for their galleries as they simply don't have to time to go through all different artists site one by one, and they are more happy to be sent a high quality e-mag which they can just download it and browse through, not only saving them time but increases the exposure of our artists' work as well. Most of the galleries often looking for new blood and they're very interested in seeing the work from emerging artists.
Also one other thing we're doing is to have annual exhibition (at least once a year) for all artist members to showcase their work "in real life" (by all mean it's not just a virtual community)..

| Kathy what sort/s of galleries are you wanting to get the attention of, as most contemporary galleries I have chatted to say they are over getting approaches from this type of website, as they already (mostly) have a stable of artists and are busy selling and running their business, more than enough Artists rock in the door already on a daily basis. |

Hi Steve
Great question! We're mainly focusing on commercial/ contemporary galleries who support emerging & established artists as well as artists run alternative space/ studios. Also new open galleries that searching to collect their artists base or existing ones who wants to expend theirs.
I totally agree with you and not ruling out the fact that there are many galleries have already got their own stable artists and very unlikely to look for new talents for a while, as I also spoke to some of them and there're indeed so many artists approaching every week, however not many artists work suit their gallery style or they're looking for particular style of work, so when times like these it'd be another option for them to see what sort of artists are out there that may interest them.

Artists subscriptions would be $79 for a year (which works out around only $6.50 a month), which not just include the e-mag for 12 months, but also artists will get their presentable ad-free profile & portfolio with unlimited artwork upload. participate in our monthly online gallery & ongoing campaigns, also we'll have annual exhibition for all artist members to join and showcase their work (in real life.. lol by all mean we're not only virtual network) with no entry/administration fees to exhibit.
We aim to gather artists & galleries and all art lovers into our "community" and get more exposure for our artists & also promote exhibitions & events for galleries to all art lovers.

Alright - I'm in. Both as artist and as gallery owner - where do I sign.
I strongly believe the art world needs more cooperation - I have a strong view that backstabbing is a one-off exercise with little benefit, whereas reciprocal backscratching can go on forever.

Unfortunately we've just in the process of launching, the show would be held around spring time this year so the location is not certain yet. I do apologize and understand that we might not be covering all states for the show due to time & budget, but we'll try to cover at least two state if possible (eg. Sydney in NSW/ Melbourne in Vic/ Brisbane for Qld etc...) Artists from all the states are still welcomed to enter.
We'll have the details and decision to all artists at least 2-3 months before the show. Thank you |
