The entry form arrived today and it seems the move to the Caulfield Racecourse has brought on a few changes ie the partitions holding the paintings are to be lined up across the race track and used as hurdles and anyone wishing to view the art works will only be allowed on to the track between races or binoculars can be hired at the entrance, on a more serious note , it's now only a three day event which is a bit of a shame , the entry fee per art work is $24 or $22 if you enter online and the the size of the work you can enter has gone up to 6 metres when measured around the perimeter ( I make that to be 1.5 m square ) which I'm happy about, and artists day ( free entry ) is on opening day Friday May 28

The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Artists has already vowed to have jumps painting banned.

I had a trip around the show this morning so am now suffering from art fatigue..to many paintings at the one time does that to me..., the venue is quite good if a bit out of the way,, it would be interesting to know the attendance numbers as compared to the old venue... The major prize winning painting is called ''Quarry After Rain'' by Tom O'Callaghan, it is a well executed painting in subtle greys and ochres , but my choice for winner would be Hans VanVlodrop's painting No P3223 which is of a night landscape in blue tones with the moon rising behind trees, plus don't miss the Steve Harris works if you go,,,,.also congratulations Wendy there is a red dot on ''On The Fence'' |

Just collected the four paintings I had submitted - tedious. My most comforting thought was that I was in good company - so many excellent pieces were bereft of red dots. I'm also aware that my $88 donation to Rotary was well spent.
I was interested to see how many award winners (from this and previous year) were unsold. Everyone I talk to says that it is hard to sell right now. Just as well I paint mainly because I love to paint.
The new venue makes parking easier. I wonder if it also meant more paintings could be hung? I was disappointed that the week long show has shrunk to three days. There is such a huge effort must go into mounting the exhibition, on the part of Rotary volunteers as well as artists, that three days seems to be too short a time.
So much talent. Once again I'm tempted to break my brushes and take up macrame! |

Oh no.... dont quit!!!
There was so much art in the one place!!!
And there was so much great art.... amazing paintings....I think it was really stiff competition, and hard to get noticed.
I walked past so many great works, walked back past them again and again until I noticed them.... so I imagine alot of other people would have done the same thing.
I am happy where my works were hung this year, they were all good places to be seen...but it was just luck I think.
Again.... back to the paint! |

| Thanks Wendy. No real chance of quitting. I agree wholeheartedly about the wealth of great paintings. It was a feast - had to guard against indigestion and take it slowly, one swallow at a time, slowly around several times, rather than great big gulps all at once. |
