A Heads up - the World Science Fiction Convention will be held in Melbourne in September 2010.

There will be an art show/competition. I'll post details when I have them, or see http://www.aussiecon4.org.au

Shaun Tan is a Guest of Honour - in my humble opinion one of the world's great book illustrators, who just happens to be Australian.

Live Long and Prosper.

Grant

I agree, his work is great!

Will this be an opportunity for me to wear a wookie costume??

Do you NEED an excuse? Come on, wear your wookie with pride!!

(In case you were wondering, No, I have not memorised the Starfleet regulations. I do not know which level the Holodeck is on. I have no idea what Han Solo was playing when he won the Millennium Falcon off Lando Calrissian...)

The only excuse not to wear a wookie costume is when the yoda alter ego has taken over....

I was discussing with my Partner yesterday the merits of replacing the Christmas tree spot in the lounge room, with an 8 foot wookie sculpture...
He said he would rather have something useful in that corner, so I offered to build it with secret hair covered cupboard inside so we can store important things.... or at least the TV remote.!

So far he hasnt said no....
Isnt not saying no the same as agreeing??
I might have to settle for a less invasive easily covered with a couch cover Yoda....

Thanks for the original posting Grant.

I like the condition of entry that states...
All items to be entered must be completed before being brought into the Art Show. No finishing touches to be added in the hanging area.

Very Happy

I wonder with the ribbon , do you get a star command salute?
It could be a fun thing to do and add to the CV!

I have never been to anything like it, so I wouldnt know what sales would be like or the potential for sales.

They can be very strange - based on past experience, you will see everything from complete begiinners to full-time professional. In the past, there have been a lot of overseas (ie, American) visitors, some of them cashed up and prepared to pay reasonable amounts ($5K+).

My advice would be that IF you are an F&SF fan, AND you are considering attending, it may be worth putting something in the show.

Cheers
