ADMIN NOTE: Art Forum now has a helpful article on this topic: Online Art Marketing

Has there been a discussion about selling your art online and if so can someone direct me to it?

If not then would those that have, are, or are thinking of selling online care to share their views on the pro's, con's or their successes and failures etc.

Have you tried it...what worked and what didn't?

ive created a shop at www.comboutique.asia where my designs are put in to bags, mugs and t-shirts. that's my little art and a little way of expressing myself at the same time earning. so for those online shoppers looking for gifts and unique stuff just give a visit for you to see. thanks Wink Very Happy

Easiest thing to do is get a simple shopping cart setup. Cubecart is a good one, or oscommerce.
You can even buy skins for these to make them look nicer.
These are programs that make selling online quite easy, you can add your own items without much knowledge and link it up to paypal.
Any webdesigner could do a simple setup like this, getting traffic is the harder thing though.

I am not selling my art online.... The web site is a vanity show...However, I have had some succes selling a tutorial... a downloadable Body casting Manual...

As you say, driving traffic is the most difficult thing... What I do is that I ask other websites and blogs to link to me. In exchange I pay them 25% of all sales... This is effective in 2 ways:
1- These blogs and sites effectively become resellers... The more resellers you have, the more you sell.
2- Even if these resellers refer very little business...This is still a link to your site...The more links you have, the higher your are in search engine results...

So... Without further ado, I am inviting you to place a small link on your site and start earning cash: http://www.bodyscape.net.nz/affiliate.htm
Cheers,
