I have read the instructions on how to upload avatar - well & good - but how do I get the picture small enough, without having to crop the picture? Any suggestions?
I hope I've posted this in the right section.

Hi Lauriek, you'll need an image editing program (like Photoshop). In Photoshop, for instance you would go to Image>Image Size and set it to 120 x 140px. The save as a JPEG or GIF.

Cheers

There are some freeware image resizers around. Don't know which one I use as I am at work. I will let you know when I get home.

I use fotosizer... just google it, it is a free down load and I use it for heaps of things!!
It has come in handy for the avatars aswell as some photos for my blogs and emails.
You just upload a photo and type in the size you want it, for example, the avater for this site requires a pic no higher than 140 x 120 wide i think(??memory not too great today) so I typed in the 140 high and it self adjusted the width for me so it wasnt distorted...
But as mentioned previous, photobucket is great aswell, and at least with them you have the url's available straight away for easy upload!

I use PHOTO GADGET PICTURE RESIZE. It is accessed by right clicking a picture and one click to resize it. It does not do batch processing though.

I have to say that putting an avatar on this site is difficult. I planned on putting another on, and even though I've done it before have just spent ages trying to get my 120 x 140 pixel image with a resolution of 72 to get to 12kb. It is currently 20kb. I've put it into Image Ready and to get it to 12kb the image is too pixilated to use.
I put it in Photo Bucket and reduced it even further before trying to load it and was told it had to be a jpg, gif, whatever. It is a jpg.

Try Fotosizer, it is a free download and you can put in what ever size you like and it downsizes a copy to your folder for you, it takes about a second to finish. It has been the only way I have found to shrink things down to the avatar size.
Others might have another way but fotosizer is my favourite!!
Just google it if intereste Very Happy d.

Hi Belle -there's something weird going on there, it should be easily under the size limit. If Photobucket say it's NOT a jpeg, then something else is going on...

Send your original file to me at [my email address] and I'll have a look at it.

Cheers

Grant

Thanks Grant. I've always thought it weird that if the pixels are right the size is out.
