Hello, I have come across a substanial number of watercolours by a lady named Bessis Pring. From what I can gather she painted between 1879 - 1966 born in Armidale NSW Studied at the Julian Ashton Art school and 1902 went to study at St John wood school in London with George lambert. Returned to Australia in 1921. Painted Fans which reflected the influence of Condor. A founding member of the Comtemporary Group in Sydney. Cousin of John Peter Russell. Taught at Julian Ashtons Art school, Awards Bowral art comp 1895 Franco british exhibition london and state theatre quest 1929
She also donated a prize to the NSW art gallery called the John and Elizabeth Newman Pring memorial prize for best Landscape in watercolours
This is the information I have found with all her paintings yet if I google her I get nothing. Can anybody tell me anything about her or if they have heard of her. |

My guess is that that information is simply the full extent of her art career.... and in those days as female artist she'd be considered very talented and successful in her own right but not significant.
She also lived and died long before the internet and unless she was a significant Australian artist with works passing though the investment markets nowdays there would by very little to absolutely nothing about her online.
Enjoy her work... hang some up, …in the mean time your post in art forum may attract someone else looking for her one day and bring you both together. I doubt her work would have any great monitory value but is certainly an exciting find to have so much altogether. |

| My name is Julie Edwards and I too have been able to come into an extraordinary amount of original Bessie Pring paintings. My grandmother was an avid artist and collector and I have been fortunate to obtain a collection of paintngs, yet my knowledge of this artist is limited I was wondering if anyone has any extended information about this artist. I would be very grateful for any information about her as I slowly work my way through framing and indeed protecting these works of art!! |

Hi Pammywammy,
I have one watercolor original of a flower arrangement by Bessie Pring dated 1927 and collected from a Bathurst house in the 1970s. I can email a photo if you are interested in veiwing this painting as a potential purchase.
