Blake Prize for Religious Art
Call for Entries
Entries are now invited for The Blake Prize for Religious Art and the prize money for 2005 has been increased to $15,000.
For over half a century the Blake Prize for Religious Art has made a significant contribution to the history of Australian art. The Blake Society continues to deal with the inevitable tensions that prevail in such organic concepts as art and religion. These concepts also make the Blake Prize a unique and exciting cultural icon. Controversy and debate keep it dynamic and contemporary.
Today, the emphasis lies in a shared understanding of diverse religious and spiritual inspiration and continued excellence in contemporary art.
Works from the Blake grace national galleries, religious institutions and churches, as well as private collections and the Touring Blake continues to take a selection of the works to various centres in Australia. The list of past winners contains the names of many of the most outstanding artists in Australia, not a few of whom have made their reputation in the Blake.
