Whyalla Art Prize
In 2005 a total of $25,000 is on offer. The Art Prize is acquisitive.
The Whyalla Art Prize was established in 1972 by the Whyalla Arts Council. Originally the art prize was designed to stimulate and celebrate local artistic endeavour, but the prize soon established itself as one of the major regional arts awards in SA and attracted entries from artists throughout the state.
When the Whyalla Arts Council folded in 1992 Country Arts SA took on the role of administering and managing the art prize. Since then a number of changes to the prize format have been made, including the development of new prize categories. These have extended the opportunities for artists to enter and have provided a national focus for the City of Whyalla Art Prize.
