Hi Everyone, ART Sydney 09 is offering booths for bargain prices of $2k...
the booths are only 4 x 2 metres, but it seems a reasonable opportunity to get in front of a lot of people, they're claiming 10/15K people attended the Melbourne version last year.
Is there anyone in the forum who participated in the Melb version of this event and would care to comment on its effectiveness?

Dhutchy the art melb was well attended, however artists that were 'stuck" on their own soon became disheartened, those with a support network of some kind faired much better (personal view) its a long stand thursday to monday... PHEW! so the old hands are well prepared with snacks etc carefully stashed etc.
If you are on your own be careful, or have a friend or two fill in for a few hours at least so you don't go nutz...

Hi there. The art fairs are hard work - there's no doubt about it. However when you think about the numbers that come through - over 15,000 over the four day period - the exposure is without doubt, worthwhile.
Look at the opportunity as a marketing exercise - the data capture onsite is invaluable. Some visitors may not be in a position to buy at the fair but will do so in future. This stand is less than the cost of an advertisement in an art magazine so it makes sense for a perceivable return on investment. Or if you were going to rent space in a gallery it would cost you quite a bit in rental, then you have printing costs, marketing, staff, etc.
We do encourage artists to bring a support crew as you're right about it getting tiring. Particularly if you think how many people come through on a Sunday by which stage the old legs are pretty worn out (mine are anyway!)
I am pleased to report nearly all the participants at The Studio in Art Melbourne have either now found representation, or have been offered exhibitions. Some also made some sales after the fair and were encouraged by the flow-on effect for art sales.
Please let me know if you need more information - contact me at lizzyg@singlemarketevents.com.au. We have had many, many applications and only space for 24!
Cheers,
Lizzy Galloway
