this is an amazing portrait, i am into the elderly myself , i am part of an exhibition on the theme of ageing that is happening in august...alot of realist painters use a limeted pallette like yr self for great results, very confident , wonderful portrait,,,may i ask what colrs are used to create the grey hair...ect ..and what colors did you use for the eyes ...thanks gh

Thanks Gav.
The hair was a mixture of ultramarine blue and burnt umber mixed with titanium white. and a little bit of yellow ocher in some parts.
I make black with ultramarine blue and burnt umber. Add a little white (of course) and you have grey.
A warm grey has more burnt umber a cool grey has more ultramarine.
The eyes or irises are the same colours again. Very Happy

Great job, Daniel, wonderful.

I too like to paint older people, their faces are so much more interesting.

in mine, I just brush the paint on, an it mixes in, and just seems to happen, SO today Im gunna give your method a go , hope Im not bein bloody cheeky Laughing
