JUST WONDERING ....
why is there so much SPAM here on this forum.? I have never seen this on any other art forum. If you want i can put you in touch with others who run forums that somehow are able to eliminate this kind of thing.

Actually, there's a fraction of the spam there used to be.
I believe the forum has a very high Google ranking, and is therefore targetted by automatic SEO tools, such as XRumor.
Bear in mind, that AF is not a commercial site, so ultimately it's going to come down to how much time people are prepared to spend keeping the spam off.
I do not have the ability or knowledge to implement structural changes to the Forum's function - I would suggest you take it up with Brad, the sites owner and real administrator.

For what it's worth, I've tried a new tack - doesn't stop the spammers but does provide some payback...
The name of the game is all about the spammers improving their Google ranking. So now, instead of constantly deleting messages by persistent spammers, I leave one but change the text. (I still lock the user out)
It's gratifying to see that my edited version of the Acal Berry post, saying how bad it was now comes up on page one of a Google search for the product less than 24 hours later.
Ahahahahaha! (SFX: echoing maniacal laughter) The awesome Godlike Power!!

Links are blocked re page rank via the forum, unless the URL is a attributed to a valid listing in ART-SEARCH.com so spammers are totally wasting their time in that regards and don't even know it.
Re Spam.
This forum software is not easy to play with, however I have it on our list to look at some new ways to stop spammers unfortunately it may make it cumbersome for new members joining. ....It's just finding the time. As it is the forum is very popular but doesn't even cover it's hosting bills its a labour of love. |
