Hi there,

I'm Nicole from sydney.

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with The Smart Art Club? I orded supplies from them almost a month ago and they only dispatched them on friday arvo. I'm quietly going crazy waiting. I've since placed 2 more orders but if they're going to take this long I'm thinking about cancelling them. There stuff is really inexpensive though and has a lot of brands I like... Rolling Eyes

Anyway, nice to meet every one and hope to chat with more of you soon Smile

Hi Nicole,

Welcome.

Sorry haven't heard of the Smart Art Club, but than again I don't buy my supplies on line. Have you ordered from them before? If not, consider the time of year...very busy and could of close down for a week or two christmas/new year...try calling them and see why it has taken so long?

Thanks for the suggestions Smile

Guess what ?! My first order and a bit of my second order arrived today!

I'm so happy Very Happy

I'm hoping it was just because of christmas/new year that it took so long. They are really really inexpensive.
Eg. 1liter atelier interactive gesso $13.95 smart art club
same item $19.95 the art shop

Atelier Interactive 1 lt acrylic series 3 $47.95 smart art club
same item $69.50 the art shop

Bit if a saving if you can stand to wait...

and you need to factor in the club membership fee too, but sounds cheap enough if they stock what you like to use.

Hi Nicole , yes I think you are right they are a lot cheaper than anyone else I've seen , I bought a 4ltr Atelier Gesso Primer which normaly retails for $78 [or $134 if you buy it in New Zealand Shocked ] Smart Art Club sells for $48.95 and even with the packaging, handling and membership fee the price still only came to $66.43 and again even if you added the shipping cost which in my case would have been about $7.50 that would have made it still under $74, and I can still use the membership fee on other purchases..

I used to go past and have a sticky beak in there shop and buy stuff.
I haven't been past in a while, so not sure if they still allow the public to go in and browse.

My last couple of orders have arrived much quicker than my first one.
I'm really happy with them.
I'll definately keep ordering with them.

Anyone can go look at their stuff and see the prices but you have to call and join to order. You don't need a credit card, they just add the membership fee to your first order.

I have found 'The Smart Art Club' to be misleading, unsatisfactory and disappointing. I am also waiting in almost excess of a month for my order. Previous to ordering I was guarranteed a delivery time of a 'couple of days' and a 'couple of days' on top of that if they didn't have stock.
Fair enough.
It so happened they were missing ONE tube of paint, so they held on to my whole order (alot of money's worth, especially for someone such as myself -a student) for a few weeks. Now I have gotten the single tube of paint and thats all.
After calling them I found the receptionist to be incredibly unhelpful and nasty. She assured me 'her boss' delivered them to my local post office 'personally'. Seeing as I've checked for any delivery that might even be invisible at the post office quite frequently to date, I asked her to be able to confirm this by calling the post office for which I'm still awaiting a reply.

Verdict: The business 'The Smart Art Club' are as cheap as their prices. Further, considering this order was to help me pass my VCE (folio due date in 6 days Crying or Very sad ) I feel more so affected as a student I find myself almost betrayed. I am now spending more money, at double the initially-paid-prices, on all the same paints at my local (ridiculously expensive) art store tomorrow.
Ouch. Mad

Yes I think the smart thing to do would be to stay away from the smart art club.
I have heard so many similar stories.
Having to pay an annual fee to buy goods in the first place is wrong as it makes you think...well I have to keep buying from them now or that annual fee I paid is wasted.
I have had reasonable success with The Art Shop.

Totally agree with the annual-fee idea, it's ridiculous! I hope there aren't many who will consider it! Especially as there are other, reasonably priced art stores out there who actually get their customer service standard at least at a respectable standard (oh and minus the fee).
Thanks for the reference for The Art Shop; will check them out Smile

Anyway I've definately learn't my lesson. Still sh*tted over the fact I had to pay a packaging&handling fee, and, "We use Australia Post & Fastaway Couriers for shipping, ensuring that your products arrive on time, and ready for immediate use." ....what a joke.
