Hi, I have been painting all of my life. I have a diploma in commercial art and design, volunteered art classes at local primary school, had an exhibition of my own art works in Adelaide, entered my artwork in many art shows, but because I live in a tiny country town I cannot get further education in visual arts as there is no art teacher at TAFE here. I would love to start my own workshops from home and work mainly with women, mums/dads and children during school hours for a stressfree fun creative workshops but I don't know where to begin and how to get started. I would love if someone could help me with this, Thanks.

Sounds great Annie...
first ask yourself is this, Is it for me to make some money, or just to continue being involved in making art.
The first one is a business the second is a hobby (yes yes hobbies can make money too, but generally not a big income.)
If you want it as a business, consider insurance, biz rego costs, advertising and the like... it can all add up in a BIG hurry!
Maybe consider a community centre like a neighbourhood house or adult ed centre. they have insurance and are often looking for courses to run (takes a lot of pressure off if someone does the advertising and insurance for you.)
If you run it on your own as a business, may I suggest you go to www.freebusinestips.com.au/forum and check out the start up section, lots of ideas in there.
So make art, have fun and I am sure people will love it! all the best... |
