I feel like there is a huge lack of any marketing opportunities at the moment. Competitions seem to be non existant, and I am not in an area to do flyers, nor do I have money to advertise...

Any other marketing suggestions you guys are doing/ have done? I have looked at a couple of local galleries and they are book, asking for 2012/13 exhibitions proposals -so that is no good to me right now.

I have the website, blog, FB and zazzle thing happening -its about reaching those people who buy art -but how else?

Thoughts

Hi Chrissy,
I'm not sure it'll be much help but if I can pinch an image from your website I'm happy to put a link up to your site from my site.
I had a look at your site and I really like your work. If I can point even one person in your direction I'm glad to do it.

Hi Chrissy,

Add a free listing to ART-SEARCH. It's free and will allow you to at least be included. Paul you could do the same for your business.

visit: http://www.art-search.com.au/addlisting.php

There are also paid options, which are extremely cheap for the promotion they offer... most artists though can't afford it and opt for the free listings, doing that and spending the time to upload some nice images is certainly worth it.

For businesses... well you need to invest in your business, The (4) Promotional Listing is the best way to go, however I see so often good businesses with really great websites, ...but then they just add a free basic listing... they don't even try the paid option. It's silly. It's like running to the finish line in stylish sponsor clothes and then just before the line, you put on a white shirt and hide in the crowd!

Other than that, for artists, you could try a studio exhibition, simply a gathering of friends to show off some recent works. Never discount friends, they will sell your name and your work to their friends.

See: http://www.art-search.com/article/how-to-hold-an-open-studio-exhibition

Hope that helps! Smile

Hi Brad,
I did the (4) promotional directory listing a couple of weeks ago, it's actually how I found this forum. I only did it for 3 months just to test the waters but there's already been a good response so I'll be sticking with it for sure.
If anyone is looking to advertise anything in the art world I definitely recommend http://www.art-search.com.au I had a good look around and it's one of the highest ranked sites in a wide range of art related search results on Google.

Thanks Brad for letting me know about the Free Listing. I have just submitted mine -pending approval.

Paulw32 -which of your two sites would you link me to? I dont see a personal website in your signature. Thanks for the lovely suggestion.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone have an insight as to how long approval takes on Art Search?
