Hi all,
I've decided to draw a portrait of my in-laws that I'll be framing and giving to them as a Christmas present this year and I was hoping to get some feedback on what paper I should be using. Ths will be a graphite pencil drawing.
Since this will be a framed gift to someone I'd like to use something of decent quality, but right now my budget is pretty stretched. I guess I'm looking for decent quality paper (suitable for framing) at a reasonable price.
From checking out a few sites online I've noticed quite a few people recommend hot pressed watercolour paper (Arches and Fabriano Artistico are two that seem to come up quite often) as well as Stonehenge paper.
Are these the sorts of papers I should be looking at or would there be something else that's worth looking into, keeping price in mind of course, and I'm curious about the best places online to order from (I've seen a few, but I have no experiences dealing with any of them).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

If you are doing a serious drawing then I would recommend Bainbridge illustration board.
The only time that I would use flat papers that you could roll would be because I had to roll them up and post them somewhere.
Illustration board is about two or three millimetres thick so will not crease or tear. It comes in a range of textures but I have used the hot pressed version which is smooth but takes the pencil well.
It might be worth driving somewhere to get it...depending on where you are. |

| Ooh, paper, where do your start?!! Devilbiss may be right, if you have a art supply store or something similar nearby, it may be easier than ordering over the net. |

If you want to buy something online. There are lots of online shops where from you can buy, what type of think do you want to buy?Can you tell me about this?I ready to help out you.
As a web designer, you would appreciate how annoying it is when people post replies on forums just to get backlinks. BTW, you've already been reported to the Stop Forum Spam database. Twice. |

I just love 'Eraldo di Paolo" Field pad. It is a pad of 225gsm paper. So its nice and thick.
I always get it from Riot art shop in SA. I dont know where else to buy it. But as long as its a thick paper like this, you cant go wrong. Dont forget your tissues and /or white glove, to keep the paper clean. |
