Hello all,
I wanted to invite you to attend an event we are hosting next Monday evening (6-8pm, 13 September at the Exhibition space, Monash University, Caulfield Campus, VIC).
We're holding an art exhibition and charity auction to raise funds for the Monash University Fund for Education in Southern Africa (MUFESA), which provides scholarships to kids from informal settlements and townships in southern Africa to go to university at our Monash campus in the suburbs of Johannesburg. The art that is coming out is amazing, including a beaded map of Africa donated by the Hillcrest AIDS centre in KwaZuluNatal and generous donations by eminent South African artists.
The event is being hosted by Professor Ed Byrne AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, and Mr Paul Ramler AM, Chairman of the Monash South Africa Board. It is being organised by a team of dedicated Monash University students. I have spent 3 years in Johannesburg running projects in the local community, and I have seen the remarkable benefits that education can bring to young South Africans - it not only empowers the individuals but their families in the community as well. Through this auction we aim to further our educational programs in South Africa and allow Australians to participate in this positive change we are effecting.
If you'd like any further information, please don't hesitate to call me.
Best wishes,
William Moore

Damned tyranny of distance, this sounds interesting. Too broke to buy art, but I had no idea there was a Monash campus in Johannesburg. Were they arts-oriented, the projects you ran in Johannesburg?
Anyway, hope it goes well on Monday night. |
