Hey Grant, why does the grey box with a red x in it show up instead of an image?
This question isn't really about the avatars, it's happening to a website that I'm trying to put together.
Thanks in advance O knowledgeable one. |

Flattery will get you everywhere...
The red cross (usually) indicates that the system is trying to display an image and failing.
It could be that:
The URL is invalid (Not likely with Art Forum as they are uploaded to the AF server).
The file is corrupted (rare, but possible)
The resolution is not 72dpi
The filetype is not supported (.psd, .eps etc)
The colour space is not RGB (ie CMYK or LAB. I do that a lot...)
I'm not sure what happens if you try to upload an Avatar bigger than AF's 12K size limit: not sure whether it bails out gracefully, or clobbers the existing avatar first. That wouldn't explain what's happening on your own website, though.
If it's none of those, email me the culprit at home@gggraphics.com.au and I'll see if I can work out what the problem is.
Cheers

Thanks for replying so quickly Grant.
The answer you gave has helped me with my avatar.
I tried to apply the RGB thing to my photos before uploading to Mr Site but it still didn't help.
I have uploaded them to photobucket then downloaded them back again and tried to use those images in my website but still no joy.
Hey!! I know how to fix the problem! all I have to do is paint small red x's in the top left hand corner of a black rectangular canvas for the rest of my life!!
That should be easy enough to do. |

Ah, but bear in mind that the difference between me and a full-time, professional web developer is that I will admit I don't know what I'm doing....
I'll have to get another white coat. The one I have now has really long sleeves for some reason.
Cheers

Yes they wrap around and tie at the back to keep you nice and warm while you sit and rock backwards and forwards in the corner of the room. |

| I want to change my email address but I get a message telling me it has been "banned". Why? I behave myself. |

Hi Patricia - you may by trying to use an @aol or @gmail address.
Both of those have been blocked as we get a massive amount of spam attempts from them.
If you email me on grant@gggraphics.com.au, I should be ble to change it to whatever you want from the backend.
Cheers
