I have some stripy soft vinyl juggling balls that I thought would make an interesting subject, especially when placed on white fabric giving lots of opportunity for reflected light.

Just the raw umber underpainting done so far, but I'm very happy with the light in this already. W&N Artists Oils on 12x16" canvas panel (which was first prepared using gesso mixed with some yellow ochre acrylic).

There's something rather striking about this as an underpainting alone. I love the tight and loose areas. Will you be painting the final like this?

And it's very topical. Perhaps it is a parable of the two major parties juggling the three independents. Which way will they fall?

LOL, if this painting was a parable about politicians, there'd be just the sheet - no balls at all Wink

Nice painting. Very Happy It would be interesting to paint as you have all of those colours to give shadows and highlights to.

I've painted in the lights and reinforced some of the darks. I'm inclined to stop now and move on to another painting before I obsess over this one and ruin it.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Lindsay
