Ok, this is the portrait so far (I've included the photo of the photo that I'm using). I haven't actually started on her top, that's just the white of the canvas. I know I have to lighten the skin tone (much darker in reality), but the thing I want to concentrate on first in the hair... I'm absolutely clueless how to do it. Of course I am open to all other comments and critiques. You can be brutally honest.

Ah yes hair! Always a trouble Laughing I find if I stroke the skin into the hairline it looks far more natural.

You have a good likeness in your portrait. I think what will liven it up is when you do the values on the face getting the lighter tones on the right (viewers) side as the main light source. That will give the shape to her face. Hard to add much more with such a small igame of the painting to look at.

All the best with it.

Hi Mariegreen
Thanks for the advice. I will definitely take it on board when I get back to it. I've realised I've also posted this in the wrong area, should have put it in the WIP, so when I post the update I will put it there with a larger photo . Smile
