Hi Everyone, I have been given an opportunity to put together a mosaic. I have never done one before. The theme for the work has to be centred around the concepts of sight/vision and or the eye... What the heck does this mean???

The size of the work is to be 1.2m x 2.1m. It will be displayed on the exterior of the building so it needs to withstand sun rain etc. Payment will be $1000.

Any ideas on what they want with the theme or what it actually means? What's the best way to do a mosaic for someone who's never done one before? Is the payment they are offering sound right? Thanks Cea

Then again it could be a lot of fun...any money is good when you need it..but the materials are going to cost you a bit for this one.
The only support for the tiles that I can think of (that will withstand the elements) is weathertex panel.
You will need some exterior tile adhesive, mosaic tiles of course and some sort of exterior grout...maybe white cement?

Weathertex is heavy and it will be much heavier when the mosaic is on it.
So you will need to be able to transport it to it's final resting place and you will probably need three strong guys that know how top attach mosaic panels to buildings (so that they don't fall down and kill small children that are admiring them)

What sort of building is it going onto...Library, school, hospital?

Check out other mosaics on the net.
I went to Nambucca Heads once and was blown away by this piece.

They are providing the panel. I have used weathertex before, I used it for the mural, great stuff but expensive i thought. I had never done a mural before either but I managed ok with that, and that was much, much larger. Im still not sure what they are wanting for the "theme" - Any Ideas anyone?

It sort of depends on what type of building that it's going on.

$ 1000 seems too little to me. How long is it going to take? 1 week would be just OK for that money, unless you do that for charity. Do not undersell your work!

Do they want concept sketches from you before you start the real deal?
