NZ Art Guild monthly challenge is "Self Portrait "
so this is the 1st couple of hrs , till tomorrow 'cos the footy's on

That's comin along good. I am thinking of doing a SP from the mirror to practice painting from life

thanks Jade , Careful on the mirror thing 'cos thats not how others see you LOL

Thanks Belle, I'm a bit of a speed merchant, so this is now all finished , about six hrs all up

red ball in the side pocket. Very Happy
You've painted the eyes well Ock. They have the perfect directional gaze focusing on the task at hand.
I also like the way that you've painted the shadows on the pool table slightly red.
Actually they teach you to paint self portraits from mirrors in art schools so...I don't know...I think it would be harder than painting from a photo.

well schools are wrong , and thats all I gotta say about that !

the shadows are actual a bit of a mix of violet, cadmium red, and white

I was wanting to try the mirror as I'm hoping the colour will be more true to life than photos and I hope to see how the form is rendered better....but I think my eyes are wierd some days I can have good depth perception other days everything looks so flat. Only problem, like you suggest, is that everything will be mirror image, but its just for practice so its ok Very Happy

Ah you are a fast one aye Ocker. I really like your expression! It's good that your mag has monthly challenges, that would be cool to start up in this forum.

This ones excellent Ocker. Great effect of concentration in the face.
I think the background could do with being a lot darker to make the figure more outstanding.
