Hey all,
I am planning an acrylic paint and mixed media piece this time with canvas as my planned surface. I'd like to attach different materials such as beads, glitter, diamentes, fabric, ribbon (satin and metallic wire), foil, paper wrapping, cellophane, handmade paper, corrugated board and brown paper. Does anyone have any advice on what to use as an adhesive? Is there an all purpose medium, adhesive or fixative or am I going to have to use several? The lady at the local art shop said ordinary craft glue should be fine...What do you all think? Any constructive responses appreciated Smile

DITTO ..........Langridge Archival PVA
pH neutral Poly Vinyl Acetate. Use as binder for vinyl colours, and as an archival adhesive for paper and canvas.
Stays permanently flexible and will not stain or discolour materials to which it adheres.

Though I'm not to sure if the cellophane will stick , let us know how it goes..

What ever you use be careful when applying the cellophane. I would do a test piece first as cellophane colours tend to run when mixed with glues.

Have you looked at Atelier Impasto Gel? It is an artist’ quality clear gel for impasto and collage work. It remains flexible and dries clear with a high gloss. It is good for heavier collage and should be fine with all your materials. It also holds firm its shape giving you time to move or replace embellishments as you go.

I would stay clear of PVA. It can remain tacky. Its quite thick too though can be watered down. A clear painting medium/binder by Matisse is one I have used before. Very thin and semi transparent, has a slight blue tinge. Sticks well, drys glossy though. But can't really get away with non gloss. Impasto applied thinly will work much the same. Impasto is opaque but dries clear.
