Curious to know, have you ever revisited a painting/drawing of an image or subject etc. For instance, you painted a something 5/10/15/20years ago, come across the image again and repaint it? The reason why I ask is because I thought about revisiting an image of something I painted 3 years ago (though never shown and was just a fun piece) as the image fits my upcoming exhibition. Plus I look at that 3year old image and think 'I can do better a second time round'.
What are your thoughts on revisiting the same or very similar subjects over time? |

| I've done this several times. Every time was slightly different. Daniel could probably give you an insight too. I think he's painted a few versions of the ferry. |

Absolutely. There's one painting that I started when I was about 20, but didn't have the technical skills to finish it. Thirty years later, I've had another go at it* - the layout hasn't changed, as I still felt the original idea was the right one. Haven't got any record of the first one, but here's the second.
HP Lovecraft fans should recognise this immediately...
There are a couple of old farm buildings I've revisited too. First time around I'd just started in watercolour and they were fairly small (A3) studies. Second time they were full sheets.
Cheers
Grant
*... and I still don't think I've nailed it. |

| I am always doing it. I think I'll reworking my art until I die. A lifetime of unfinished art. |

Yep. I'm starting another one tomorrow.
When times are tough I'll get up enough determination to paint another ferry.
They are sure sellers.
The Deer Pool was another one. I must have painted that 8 or 9 times.
Geeze and if things weren't bad enough this year...Bundeena School has cancelled their yearly exhibition.
But on the topic of revisiting subjects over a long time span, I think it is a great idea. It helps you realise how much you have progressed. |
