I am not too far out of town. I will try to make a trip down. Is it an open or invite only opening?

Thanks Tango. I have my fingers crossed that it goes well too!

Marri, their invites do ask for RSVP's but I really have no idea how strict they are on that. But you are definitely invited, because I have invited you along Very Happy if it's not too far away and you'd like to go.

I'll post up the invite when I receive it.

Cheers

they ask for rsvp's but they dont matter - Ive walked in to a few of their openings with friends no problems

what are they going to say "you cant come in, its invites only" , heh any gallery that did that to me would get the response "oh I just won the lottery and I was looking to purchase some art, I'll take my business elsewhere" , just so I could see the look on their face

dont think galleries are that stupid as to turn people away

its a nice gallery Amandav, youve done well to get in there

thanks Boris, I didn't think it (rsvp) would matter since I've never known a gallery to adhere to them, but nice ot have a local to confirm.

Unfortunately no Boris. I feel pretty disappointed that I can't go but my husband and I have a few shows all around the same time so unless we can find some more money so we can fly from Hervey Bay to Perth straight over to Melbourne for his opening and back home, I just won't be able to get there. Managing framing and freight alone for the two of us is hard enough

Fortunately this has given me a bit longer to try to deal with some problems I am having with dust drying on the black passages...

Very best of luck with it, Amanda. And with the dust. I look forward to seeing the work when you put it online.

Good luck with it all Amanda.

The packing and freight costs are killers.

It seems like you are going for gallery representation in every state.

I bought a tube of black once...lamp black or mars black, I can't remember.

I do remember that it too about three weeks to dry and it was only applied as a thin film..never again.

I mix ultramarine and burnt umber for black now.

Not every State Daniel, but I figure you take the best opportunities that present themselves and this is a really good gallery. I was actually introduced to the people at United through a Qld gallery a bit over a year ago when they were looking for artists to curate into a group show in their Sydney gallery. I've never shown in Perth so it will be interested to see how they take to my work...or not as the case may be.

Normal Art Freight from Hervey Bay (4 1/2 hours north of Brisbane) to Perth is a killer but I have had to get a bit smart about how I freight from here. I pack like you wouldn't believe and have used Australian Air Express...so far, so good.

My blacks are all mixes. Mostly Ultramarine and Burnt Umber but quite a few other mixes too - incorporating the deepest green, crimson, blue, some yellow even - as I still want variance and nuance in the black passages.
I do have a tube of black but it doesn't make it's way into the paintings (too flat). Instead I am use it thinned with odourless solvent and with cobalt driers added to paint the edges of the dark ones, since white edges look pretty terrible on a black painting

Drying isn't the issue, it's keep dust and dirt off the paint. The difficulty has been that we moved and haven't been able to really set the studio up properly, this means that the studio is too dark for me to really see everything properly when I am working this dark, and also it's not terribly well sealed - the whirly bird in the roof that helps with ventilation also helps with letting debris in.....hopefully the work sells in Perth and we can put some money into improving the studio conditions.

Velvet, I am having so much trouble photographing the darn things - no photographer here and different lighting conditions - but I need to have them done in the next day or so and will post a few images.
