Hi all
I am new here and would like to ask everybody for there opinion , help with what professional artist paint I should use here.
Im used to using acrylics and had used many kinds in Germany.
I have heard some good things on the Global Colours rage of products and the Matisse range but really wanted to find out what the local people in Australia use.
Could you help me pick from the following and why you think I should or should use them.
Global Colours ?
Matisse ?
chroma ?
Thank you all in advance |

I'd recommend Golden Paints.
They have regular full bodied acrylic paints, 'open' acrylics which allow for longer drying times and easier blending and also a 'flow' version which is quite runny.
They have an excellent pigment load, really good reputation and a wide range of mediums and varnishes.
Their website has lots of technical information about their products and also usfeul infromation about varnishing etc.

Amandav, thank you for your advice but I really would like to stick with an Australian brand as I like to support the country I now live in.
I do know that Golden Paints are very good but you say the have "excellent pigment load". I have been told that Global Colours also have great pigment load in there pro colours.
Have you ever used any of the brands above? |

Hi artmanA do so how long have you worked for Global Colours ?
I wouldn't use any of those, go for the best Liquitex or Golden Paints |

Yes I've used them......which is why I recommend Golden Paints.
There are so many products we consume in our daily lives that there are LOADS of opportunities to 'support Australia' in your other shopping decisions.
And of course you can buy them from an Australian supplier and support jobs that way.
(BTW My number one paint purchases are Langridge Colours - Australian made and owned - but they don't yet do an acrylic paint, instead they recommend Golden as the best acrylic paint available) |

Hi ArtmanA
Chroma makes Atelier Interactive artists acrylic paints in a range of 75 colours, which are incidentally due for revision next year. See Chroma’s website- Paint Talk- Colour Range discussion at http://www.chromaonline.com/paint_t/atelier_color_range_discussion. Chroma likes to engage the end users of our products in improvements to our products where possible.
It is an Australian owned company and the paints are made in the factory in Mt Kuring-gai, north of Sydney, NSW.
The colours have fantastic pigment load and a soft, smooth consistency yet good body for heavier impasto applications. They are softer than Matisse Structure yet firmer in consistency than Matisse Flow. From my limited experience with Global, Interactive has a slightly heavier consistency than the Global artist’s acrylics.
The important thing to realize about Atelier Interactive is that the paint is re-wettable. Therefore paint film doesn’t dry with a plasticy film like other acrylics. The drying time is like a standard acrylic yet the surface can be reactivated with water for up to a week depending on climatic conditions. You can use a damp rag or brush top lift off sections of colour if you are working in negative to build your image. Alternatively you can add water to the surface with a fine mist sprayer to continue your working time, keep blending and get precise gradations in colour. The range of mediums in the product range allows you to control your working process and keep it like a traditional acrylic if you prefer.
I think the best thing is for you to try the three Aussie made brands out and see what suits your working style best. Don’t forget you can always contact Chroma directly through the website if you have specific questions about the product. |

I forgot to mention that there are 2 other topics under this subject heading in Acrylic Painting where contributors have discussed what their experiences are with 'Atelier Interactive Acrylics' http://www.artforum.com.au/vtopic1503.html and 'Help: is Matisse Structure the same as Interactive', http://www.artforum.com.au/vtopic9851.html
