Hi all,
Bit of an odd one. I have come into possession of a couple of pieces of artwork that were thrown out on the tip.
The first is a print or picture or something by Boyd Webb.
The second is an original oil painting on plywood by Noel McKenna.

Googling both names has led me to believe that it might be worth me getting both items valued. Googling has also led me to become aware of how little I know of art and the art world.

I found this site and notice that they have ads for valuers. Are these recommended people or are there others that experts would recommend? Also, what is a fair price to pay for a valuation? My wife wants to keep the items so it would be for insurance purposes.
Thanks in advance.

Noel McKenna? A genuine one on the tip? What a find......I wish I'd found it.

I don't know anything about the valuers who advertise here.

McKenna's Sydney dealer is Darren Knight Gallery, director is Darren Knight (and in Melbourne Niagara Galleries, director is Bill Nuttal).

Would be worthwhile contacting one of them. I kinow some dealers will do valuations for insurance purposes and if they don't, which I'd find surprising they will certainly be able to refer you to a reputable one.

Sorry I can't tell you a fair price to pay for valuation, but just call, ask them .

A fair price for an insurance valuation is around $200 - 250 for the first item and then $50 - 80 for each item thereafter. A market valuation should be free.

Thank you both for your replies.

I can tell you that the company that DOES advertise on a side bar on this site does not even respond to emails to it's "info" address. They must have money to burn.

Contacted the gallery in Sydney and received reply from them. They are happy to do a valuation for insurance purposes.
