Finished the lion that dragged on forever!!
I began this one in class with Leigh a while ago and finally got it done.... I wasnt allowed to go in gung ho and rush through it like I do with most things.....

Pastel on colorfix.
It was fun to do. and I might even tackle another one! Very Happy

I just love big cats. This one looks a bit strange with his tongue out. I think he would look a lot better showing his teeth, but I guess that's how he looks on the reference photo?

Hi Clive, the tongue was that way in the photo. This guy in Tonji, one of the males at Werribee Zoo just after he had a meal. I was standing about a foot away from him as he devoured a small animal carcass. I'm telling you when these guys roar you WILL jump.

Leigh wouldnt let me 'artistically' remove the tounge...I complained about it sufficiently though!!

The lion had just finished eating.... It is exactly as in the reference photo.

Leigh where are you?? Defend yourself here!! Laughing Laughing

I have a habit of taking a reference photo or scene, and breaking it down into something 'pretty' and acceptable, painting only what I want to see.
With some of the classes I have taken to improve my pastel skills , Leigh has made me get out of my comfort zone, and explore things I would normally never NEVER paint... like a bowl of fruit, some artificial roses in a vase on a table ( yes Leigh... I still hate them Laughing ) and a lion with its tounge out....

Next time.... I will have teeth.... BIG ones!!Very Happy

Hey Wendy, don't blame me! You're the one who had him looking like a mutated teddy bear early on if I remember correctly?! Laughing

lol, looks great

I have to admit that if faced with a lion in RL with no fences between my and him, I would like Wendy's version rather then the ones with teeth ;p

"I might even tackle another one!" - I am not sure tackling lions is wise unless training for the circus.
