Just completed painting of a Dobermann.
A beautiful noble expression, calm and confident, from a really good photo supplied by the owner.

The dog's name is "Rosie"

Pastel on Mi Tientes paper.

Nice painting! Love the colour and warmth in the eyes. Very Happy
I really like your back ground also! It looks almost like a watercolour!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

Jade, I often have to work from less than ideal photos especially of deceasd pets where I can't get any more. Digital cameras have made a huge difference to the quality of photos I receive, although a lot of people still manage to stuff it up. Enlarging a little black blob at the end of the garden just gives you a big black blob at the end pf the garden.

Wendy, the background is just pastel put on and rubbed together. I always use my fingers to do this although I probably shouldn't. I've tried other methods but nothing else works as well.

Hi Clive, this piece is awesome mate! The simplicity of form, the definition of the light, the personality of the dog shines through brilliantly.

Awesome work. She appears smart and totally alert. One of my dogs is named Rosie, too, but she's a cockerspaniel.
