This was always going to be a landscape but more and more it has a water feel to it. I may remove some more white before I call it finished. CC encouraged on this one. BTW - you may recognise it as the untitled landscape with white poles I posted a month or so ago. I took a paint scraper to the white poles and started again - didn't like it.
910 x 620 marri resin, enamel paint, bitumen (surprise!).

No I'm not trying to be funny. It has an oozy dripping stalactite feel to it. Like being inside a red cave. I like it.

I will hang it "upside down" for a few days and see how I feel. I am lothe to ditch it. The background took ages. Thanks!

I think the squiggles of lighter paint on the "brown poles is a bit of a visual cliche (the style) and takes the edge off it for me (it becomes more decorative that way and it probably shouldn't be...) try a light wash of bitumen to knock back some of the red, or bitumen with clear resin to make it more transparent.

Thanks Steve, I think I know what you mean..... the worst "squiggle" being on the left "slab" of bitumen (on the second "upside down" image). Those marks are from drizzles of white enamel about five layers down..... I will have to ponder it for a while but my gut feeling is to live with them. Perhaps I can scrape bits back and reduce the continuity of them..... some paintings are born difficult.
